Transfer Case Problems

Didn't get a written estimate before. These guys have worked on my stuff before. They actually built my last Jeep. In the past, I've always been treated fairly. I am going to pick it up and talk to them in the morning. The 3 dealers I called around here wanted $90 and wouldn't credit it to repairs. For the same work they would have charged between $625-$675 plus the diangnostic fee. The fluids needed to be changed anyways. The thing is, I never would have taken it to the dealer for the work. I would have paid them their $90 and found someone else to fix it. I could have done the wheel bearing myself! The part is $200-$300 new. At least the dealer would have guaranteed the work. I'm just crossing my fingers this is all fixed. If it's still howling at me there is no way that I'm coughing up that kind of money. I'll pay them for the fluids change and will go somewhere else. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt till tomorrow. Like I said, they've been fair in the past. They may work something out with the price tomorrow. I think $450 - $500 parts + labor is fair...as long as it is fixed. I'm just a little frustrated about the whole deal. I've owned this for less than a week. I only paid $6500 and it's clean overall...in better shape then the other 99s I looked at around here. I couldn't find anything nicer for less than $8K. It looks like I'll be into this one $7000-$7500 by the time it's all ready to go.
