Tranny problem?

ok, I just noticed this last week driving up the highway and have noticed it since then. I have a 91 with an auto tranny. In overdrive, when I let off the gas almost all the way, just keep the pedal a little of the way in, I hear a grinding noise coming from below me, almost like someone is grinding the clutch in a manual. Is this a sign my trannsmission is going bad? or is it just a random noise? Thx

check your fluid in your transfer case, i had a noise like that on my old cherokee, found out the 231 developed a steady leak... a puncture wound if you will.

checked it out, there was a small leak and about half my fluid was gone, the other half was black. Filled it up with new stuff and it seems to run smoother. Noise is still there but far less. Thx
