Hi guys,

Is it doable to run Indy on a Sat and then run Carnage Gulch on Sun?

Just thinking about possible BOTW schedules.

(and, no, I won't ask if any of you will show up) (besides Led)

:)

If you don't have to spend Sunday fixing what you messed up at Indy? Sure ;)
A number of well built rigs did Indy at CO fest, some carnage happened, and they came back pretty late (We were camped near Beuna Vista). If I remember, most did a trail the next day.

Yes it can be done easily provided ,as Ron said, you're not spending a lot of time fixing trail damage. The trails are about 80 miles apart so plan on about 1.5 hr for drive time.Keep in mind if it snows or rains enough down at Indy the BLM closes the trail (locks the gate) until it dries out a little.

As for nobody showing up: Give it a rest already. It was funny 3 years ago but now its just old.Not all of us can afford trailers,tow-rigs,fancy motorhomes, etc and for a lot of us our trail rigs are also our daily drivers(which I would rather not beat the hell out of too bad and not be able to get to work). If you do Indy and Carnage on a weekend I'll definately be there...to watch--If its during the week I cant make it as I have a business to run and my brother/business partner (Air Force Reservist) is now on active duty and getting ready to head to the middle east for a while which just makes everything all the more difficult.

Oh by the way....where were all you "hardcore Kalifornia wheelers" for ColoradoFest..this year and last????

Take this however you want I dont give a s%^t. :)

Thinking about early May, hopefully the weather will be OK then. Where would you camp if running Indy, and then where to camp to run Carnage? We'd want to camp Friday night, then run Indy on Sat, and then drive to BV or where ever. Run Carnage on Sunday, then Monday drive to Montrose and run trails starting Tues.

Damn, I wasn't going to say anything, but my fingers just...... :)

I've been to CO twice, and drove my XJ there and back every time, and the same with all my trips to Moab. Same with Jes, Andy, Erik, Paul, Jeff, and a few others. Last year, I started towing, but not because I'm afraid to drive the XJ, I'm just getting older and want more comfort. Now, I usually drive my XJ to work the next day after getting back from a trip, because I haven't unhooked the trailer or unloaded the camper yet.

Running the Rubicon and Fordyce, and hiking in the Sierra's. :)

I'd really like to get back to CO in the summer, but damn, it's hard to fit a lot of off time into those couple of months. I still really want to run the trails in the San Juans, which I can't do next year, but maybe the year after.

Hey, giving each other crap is part of the fun. If I couldn't take it, I wouldn't say anything. Besides wanting to run those trails, I'm thinking that starting the trip at Indy on Sat would make it easier for more of you guys to come out. Believe me, if this trip happens (we've never cancelled a trip yet), there will be plenty more crap slung around..........even if I don't bring it up again, you know someone else will.

I've already got a sweet list of excuses made up.;)

We should have no problem runnning them on consecutive days. We may get into camp late on Sat (I'm assuming we'll want to camp in BV?), but it'll work.

I agree :D.Someday the wife and I will make it out to run the Rubicon and when I finally get my rig to trail-only status I will certainly run a BOTW with you guys-- just cant risk catastrophically(sp?) damaging my DD right now.

Richard,

I'll come watch. I've been watching CO rigs run Indy for 5 years. :laugh3: Just don't ask to borrow an axle shaft(Co insider joke).

Indy is on BLM land, you can camp anywhere, there just will be no facilities whatsoever, and you might have a bunch of high school kids drinking and whatever off in the chaparall.

Maybe some day ill be cool enough to run hardcore. :D

What time of year are you thinking?

The dates are going to be May 6-13. Schedule should be to start on Sat 5-6 in Penrose and run Indy, then Sun run Carnage Gulch near Buena Vista. Monday, May 8, will be a travel day, and we'll make the three hour drive to Montrose. Tues, Wed, and Thurs we'll run trails in Montrose. Friday we'll run Billings Canyon, and Sat those who don't have to head for home can run 21 Road.

Send me a PM with your e-mail address if you want to be put on the list for the trip. I can send you a list of the BOTW equipment requirements, and then keep you up to date on trip plans. We'll do like we did last year, the ticket to get in is $100, which will be donated to Friends of Panamint Valley who are working to re-open Surprise Canyon. Of course, friends and spectators are welcome.......we do have a good time. :D
