Tragic

The reason is by taking some reasonable precautions to make sure there isn't a second loss from this senseless tragedy.
Some people aren't able to process extreme emotional trauma.

Taking the time, and resources to make sure the truck driver is coping is, I think, overall the best way to handle this.

Just my .02

Yes, but making it "mandatory" for x amount of sessions is just going to piss the guy off, more than anything else.

I'd say "you must go" for the first session (figure out where the guy is,) then offer the rest as an option. He's going to need to talk about it to someone, and it shouldn't just be a "psychologist's hour," either. Make that one an open-ended appointment.

But, he may get it resolved in a two-hour jaw session, he may get through it in 10-15 minutes. We don't know the guy's background, y'know?

I'd probably handle it as; "I've made an appointment for you with a counselor on this day, and given you the day off. They've cleared their decks, so take as long as you need. If the two of you decide you need more time to talk about it, just let me know. The first session will be required - the rest are not."

It's sad to hear that someone died for doing something stupid. I truly feel for the kid's family. I used to ride with guys who did that kind of stuff. I would just shake my head and hope they didn't kill themselves right in front of me. I hope someone somewhere can take a lesson out of this and avoid repeating the same tragic scene.

As a motorcycle rider, I feel no sympathy towards someone that did a wheelie on the freeway. I can understand doing it with some friends on a street with no cars present...sure, have fun. The freeway is NO place to mess around.
If I was the driver, I'd be pissed that the rider did that near me. I always hate when guys in tshirts and tennis shoes do wheelies next to me in my Jeep.

X2

Riders like that just piss me off. They bring a bad taste to the mouths of most people on the road, there like the "wheeler" who tears trails up and leaves their trash all over out wilderness. I feel more sorry for the trucker than the kid...
