I feel it necessary to explain how the search function actually works.

To speed itself up, the search engine excludes words that are less than 4 characters long, because they are usually works like "to" "the" "of" "and" etc...

Unfortunately, this also includes words like "D44" "D33" "8.8" "232" "XJ" etc...

Searching for a lot of the stuff that you guys always yell at people about isn't really possible.

I suggest that, instead, we start a tech faq sticky that links to posts about such things. (Axle swaps being one of the worst)

Thoughts?

Why not read the stickied post at the top of the page called "Guide to Searching"?

It is possible to search for those things...

That doesn't work. There are about 3 posts covering an 8.8 swap right now on the front page. See how many come up when you search for "Ford 8.8"

or the axle sticky thats allready there...

That has 4 links in it... what an amazing wealth of information. Where's the 8.8 info? Oh? It's not? Darn... sure wish we could search for 8.8 huh...

And there are THOSE that should USE the spell check feature also!

very funny... and I did... it didn't check the title obviously.

I find it ironic that I make a post that suggests a little less critiquing of other peoples posts might be in order, and that's exactly what I get in return. I guess everyone needs a hobby.

Hmmm i get 350+ results when i search for that...Have you tried clicking the "Go" button?

Interesting...I just searched "Ford 8.8" and got five different posts that have had new entries in less then a day (including this one) and 34 pages of other posts. The 34 pages part is why we bitch about SEARCHING! Their should not be that many threads about 8.8 axles, but because people are too damn lazy to search we have them.

So you can whine all you want but we are still going to try and educate people about SEARCHING!

While those may all be relevant, It didn't find the posts that he wanted it to find because they didn't type out "Ford 8.8"... just like a lot of people write D60 instead of "Dana 60" or 14b instead of "14 bolt".

You're not educating anyone. Those people do searches, do not find what they are looking for and then post. If you want to stop the posts then make a list of relevant articles and make it a sticky. OR fix the search function so it doesn't exclude terms that are relevant to things people will search for on a regular basis.

Explain to me why, when someone makes an offending post... not just 1 person posts "Use search" but at least half a dozen do... Wasn't it covered by the 1st poster? But everyone needs to get in their jab... This speaks to me of the intent of those supposedly "Educating" the poster. And I don't think it has anything to do with "Education"

Trouble is... the list would be atrocious because there are so many new topics started on the same subject.

Provide me with a link to an example and I'll tell you exactly why.

And post it in the appropriate forum.

Wow, did it really hurt you that bad to read "thoughs" instead of "those"?

I think we'll all make mistakes from time to time but the OP's obviously not a habitual bad speller, so don't nitpick just to be an *sshole.

That should be a general rule of thumb on this board too.

So then would you not be able to use the board?

And I don't think he was refering just to the "thoughs" in the title, I think he mean the part where he wrote "sue" instead of "use."
