tire fitment with RE 3.5 on a stock XJ

I'm looking at getting a RE 3.5 for my beater but won't be able to trim right away, and won't be able to regear right away either. I'm wondering how 31s will look, if 32s will fit or suck on 3.55 gears, and similar bits of useful info. I don't think I'm allowed to ask for pics on this forum but they sure would be nice...

ps--I'll be on the stock 15x7 rims for a while too

I have RE 3.5" Superflex lift. I originally had it on 31's, looked good with plenty of clearance. I recently went up to 33's and had to trim a good 2.5" off the fenders to get enough clearance for flexing. Awesome lift, rides great and performs even better!

On 31's:

On 33's:

BTW, I'm still on stock gearing with the 33's. I wouldn't say it sucks performance wise, but gas mileage wise it does. I made a snorkel with a K&N cone filter and that gave it a little extra pep.

31's are perfect with an RE 3.5"

Are you going to go with the Super Flex or Super Ride RE kit?

This is my plan too.

I have yet to see anybody recommend the super-ride, so that leaves the super-flex

Although I'm now thinking I should look at the 4.5 instead

I started off looking at the R.E. 4.5 lift, but don't cant afford to regear to run 33's so I'm thinking of 3.5 lift or the Hybrid 4" from DPG. just have not heard much about it tho

I bought the super ride with the full leaf pack and could not be happier with the kit. Good price and very well manufactured.

I did add a set of JKS sway bar discos afterward, so I suggest getting the super flex now.

You'll want to bump stop the front if you go with 32"s. Otherwise, 31"s on the 3.5" is like butter on toast.

The DPG 4" is what I have been considering. If you look at the package, it's basically the 3.5" superflex with some substitutions (JKS discos instead of RE) and some minor additions (spacers that bring the front up level with the rear, and shocks of your choice), but it's still a RE 3.5 SF at core

that's what I like about was really curious about the JKS trackbar not heard of many people running it. plus what the over all actual lift after install is.

Here is mine, I just put the 3.5" Superflex and 32's. For the Street its pretty much fine as is, but i'll be doing some trimming tomorrow. Performance is not as bad as I thought it would be, but I will be doing 4.56's as soon as funds allow, because i'm sure it will be a dog up in the mountains.

gas mileage on 32's with stock gears is fine. i get around 15 so you should be good there. and yes the tires will rub on the LCA's with stock rims so if you're planning on getting new rims relatively soon don't worry about it otherwise bumpstop. concerning fitment, RE lifts are usually higher than what they advertise so with the 3.5" you'll prolly get around 4-4.5 which is perfect for 32's. i have 4.5" with trimmed fenders and there's ton's of room to stuff

Here is a thread I found with the RE Super Ride.

And how it worked off road:

Their was another member, NCjeepgirl83, that did an install and recently took hers out for some trailriding.

Both Super ride kits seemed to flex really well. The only difference in a Super Flex and Super Ride lift is the swaybar disconnects and the super flex joints in one end of the lower control arms.

It really will depend what you are going to do with the XJ. Mine will serve DD duties and weekend wheeling so the Super Ride makes sense for me. The above threads helped me make the decision.

Here is mine with the 3.5" RE superflex and 31" M/Ts

In the lower pic, taken before I got my bumper on, you can see it rips at the plastic corner of the bumper when fully stuffed. It sounds terrible. No problem with the new bumper and the inner fender plastic trimmed.

I do still need 1" wheel spacers though cuz I can't turn full lock with these wheels.
