I am going to fab up a rear bumper and swing away rear tire carrier and I am looking for the link/site that sells the bearing that the carrier swings on. I tried to search but I can't remember what they are called so i got no matches. I know i read a thread on here not to long back with a link. Thanks

that is the hinge i bought for my carrier & when i told the machine shop guy that did the fab work for me what i paid for it he said he could have built me one like it in a couple of hours & would've only had about 25 bux in it, instead of the 54 i had paid..

not to mention in order for our design to work we had to dayum near cut the axle housing part in half & cut off about 3" of the spindle shaft, i started to send the left-over back to Rock stomper & ask for a refund of the % we hadn't used..

I'm not knocking RS they supply the market w/ a good product that is hella stout, but i'm just sayin you may wanna find a small machine shop to manufacture something for yer needs that be equal in stature but easier on the pocket..

as for a Latch we (the machinist & myself) built a bolt assembly similar to a "Bolt Action Rifle" assembly..
its basically a 5/8" dia. pin which slides inside a piece of round tubing that has a slot reamed along its length which alows for a lever the engage the carrier arm which has a matching 5/8" hole when it swing to the closed position & stops & the plate where the before described latch bolt assembly is affixed to a bracket..

if yer intested i can pm you some more details..

later..

I'm not following you with the cutting of the rockstomper hinge problem. Any pics would be appreciated. I purchased a similar product off a guy on Jeepsunlimited in the Fabricators forum. It is a tube with the inside machined to accept the trailer bearing races and a seal and cap. I purchased a spindle off of the surplus center I believe, but I haven't actually built anything with these parts yet. :) Jeff

So you didn't research your needs or the product that you bought and that reflects on RS how? ;)

Just busting on you.

The RS hinge is great for someone who might not have the time or skills to deal with the hinge.

I think rockstomper makes good stuff, but my friend had a falty hindge and a broke in half on the trail.

If your interested in making the hinge from scratch, I found a Timken bearing, A4050 & outer cup A4138 that worked quite well. The bearing has a 1/2" inner dia. and 1 3/8" outer dia. This worked well with 1/2" rod, threaded as required and 1 1/4" sched 40 pipe slightly reamed out for a tight fit.
