thudding noise in dash

My XJ and Mj both do it. Its ounds like its behind the clock and radio. I've checked behind it and couldnt find anything wrong. What could it be?

just hitting bumps, all the time, whrn you do something specific? need more info.

Its not all the time. Sometimes its when i go down the road and other times it can be when Im not even moving.

Its like something is loose and moving around. It doesnt look like anything is back there.

Something bounding around in the defrost vents? Or maybe something hitting the firewall in the engine compartment?
