May have an opportunity to relocate to the pueblo area. Just wondering what I should expect. How pricey is housing, gas, food ect? Here in Northern Mi gas is still around 3.50-4 dollars a gallon. An apartment is around $500 a month. Could one survive out there on a $20-25 an hour pay range? How is the wheeling out there also?

Colorado Springs and Pueblo generally have around the lowest gas prices in the Country, currently $3.30 in northern Colorado Springs. Pueblo also has some of the lowest housing prices for a major city in Colorado, although that is in large part because it has one of the more depressed economies and lowest average wages. Either way, prices shouldn't be too different from what you're used to.

Check out Pueblo West, its a nicer area than Pueblo. Pueblo is only about a 20-30 minute drive from Colorado Springs if you don't mind commuting. Pueblo has a pretty large Hispanic population, a big reservoir for recreation, and gets pretty hot in the summer- its a rather desert-ish climate.

I know someone with a lot for sale in Pueblo West.
It's zoned for a duplex, and the rest of the houses on the cul-de-sac are nice. Judging from the lawns there, there aren't any watering restrictions.
I worked briefly in Pueblo, at the jail downtown. I was impressed by how friendly everyone was. However, it is too damn hot for me. It is the proverbial dry heat, and the temps drop quickly once the sun is down, but it's only at 4000 ft.
It has Democratic politics, being an old union town. There is a bit of ethnic tension there.

It is amazingly hotter there than here in the Springs. Amazing how the lower altitude changes the weather patterns.
BUT... The OP lives in Michigan. I had customers all over Michigan when I was a Senior Field Engineer for a machine tool company and I can say that, without a doubt, the OP will really like the lack of humidity here.
Plenty of places to live within easy commuting distance.

I moved out here from Sault Ste Marie in late 2007, the heat is a lot more tolerable then northern Michigan. As far as Pueblo goes, there is violence that happens in some of the sketchier' areas, but Colorado Springs has it's share also, its just know what neighborhood you are in and which ones to avoid. The rent in Colorado Springs will be higher, just because there are historically low open rentals with the Universities and the 3 military installations in the area. Otherwise the Front Range is awesome, and there is great wheeling within a short drive.

Indeed, but Old Colorado City (now-western Colo. Springs) won out as the Territorial Capital, and the railroad then chose Denver as the hub of its E/W and N/S routes, making it the choice as capital post-statehood.
Ironically, it looks as though AmTrak will be coming through Pueblo in the not-too-distant future, in an attempt to bring it some tourism dollars and take a bite out of that high unemployment figure... Amtrak is SO successful elsewhere, so no doubt it will be a HUGE success.

I had read somewhere that, after Colorado City, Golden was the Capitol before Denver.
There were also stories that at one time Fountain was vying to be the Capitol.

I've read that about fountain too... CC got the title, then after the first legislature saw what a podunk town it was, literally at the first territorial legislature, they adjured and re-convened in Denver. I think CC was the capitol for like week or something.
