the un-jeep thing

I have a 1989 chevy s-10 blazer anyone heard of swaping out the d30 from a cherokee to a chevy??

I once saw a nicely executed Olds Bravada with a XJ D30 and Explorer 8.8 which worked very well.

do you kno if the bravada was 2wd or a 4wd brfore the conversion??

Most likely a 4wd... don't the Blazers use a 231 T-case already?

idk i have a 2wd and i have a 4wd jeep and the jeps mangled and rusted out and my blazers fine so i was thinnking of converting to 4wd if possible

Its possible, but you will need a variety of parts... the GM 231 has a different input spline count than the Jeep version, and there may be differences in the output of your Blazer's 2wd transmission versus a 4wd version for marrying up the T-case. You could possibly adapt your Blazer engine to the Jeep transmission and transfer case assembly, but it would be easier to find a Blazer 4wd transmission and transfer case assembly to swap in with the Jeep axles.

well since my jeep is carrying a GM 2.8lt v6 the engine would mount but the the blazers a 5 speed and the jeeps an auto so ur thinking the jeep transfer case may not bolt up with my drive shafts on the blazer?

It can be done. This is a guy from Jeepin.com's board. He's running an 8.8 Explorer rear with a D30 front from an XJ.

It's not going to be a bolt-in deal, but if you have good fab skills and the right tools, it's definitely possible. Don't think I would go to the trouble of a SFA swap, unless I was at least going D44. Just my $.02.

Oh, you're talking about really old junk... that's a whole other ballgame than what I was thinking. Not worth the effort then.

so u think the axles junk/ransfer case r junk?? so it would be best to pull a axle from a newer jeep?
no no
get a newer jeep
and ditch the shevy chit

sorry - i had to...

Shhhhhhhhhh dont tell no one but the chevys better tahn the pile-o-jeep ive work all the bugs out of i really cant afford a newer vehicle at this point and with 2 non running i think i can build the ultimate jeep chevy or at least a running terror

No, it was a figure of speach referring to the parts you have. Like stuff, get it?

Anyway, you could probably cobble something together by swapping the entire drivetrain and axles into the Blazer chassis, but I question whether it is worth the effort.

I used to own an S-10 Blazer, and ran a very popular S10 4X4 web site. One of the most popular mods was SFA since the IFS offered no flex.

Common fronts were D30 and D44 off 66-77 Bkos, and D30s off XJs.

Common rears were 9" from 66-77 Bkos and 8.8 from Exploders.

Also a common setup was front and rear (D30 and D35C) off an XJ donar, this was IMHO the best setup (for mild trail use) since front and rear would have the same bolt pattern and width.

Only thing missing is some scrap steel and a few welding rods.. And a lot of time! This is also the added expense of the unexpcted parts, and even the expected ones... like shocks and brake lines, etc..

HTH,
Andrew

If you have a Chevy 2.8 (60 degree block) its not necessarily going to mate up with stuff using the 4.3 (a 90 degree block). Besides, why would wou want to put that motor in a newer car. GM used to make S10 blazers with that motor. If thats what you want just get one and put a solid axle in. It was a crappy vehicle. I used to own one (just an S10 actually). If you want one, people should be practically giving them away by now. I know I was really really happy the day some sucker drove off with mine. :D  :D

You confuse me, man you keep saying that you have no money or time but talk about swapping stuff that would take both to accomplish :dunno:

SORRY
ya'll false alarm well theres a new plan im gonna trade the blazer for parts and service for the jeep so i will have the jeep on the road(or off) asap

the origanal plan was to trade a yota car for the axle swap so the issuse wasnt $$ it was whta i had and not being able to get something else

once again SORRY for the confusin

You can be less confusing next time by using capitalization, punctuation, spelling and grammar. It really works! :sunshine:
