The SEC needs...

How about lets have this thing at MY house! :) I'm sure my wife would love to have 40 Jeeps in the front yard.

1. Who could host a big gathering? Me. Got a 6 acre field in the front yard.
2. Raffle? I, too, love raffles.
3. Food - BBQ? Potluck? Catered - I got a ginormous grille.
4. Swap meet! always got junk to off load on someone else -I agree.
5. When - sometime in the fall so camping would be pleasant? i, also, agree with glenn....
6. Local wheeling trip? 20 minutes away. Glenn don't like it (:P) but I'm sure someone would. www.gulchesorvpark.com
7. How much lead time do you need? Me, I don't need much lead time. That's all you guys.
8. Someone bring a RENIX scanner! Why? I don't have a Renix. :)

I would be down for this, Gulches is badass.

This is the one complaint that I have ever had about this great chapter, its so dang large north to south. There is not a true "central" location at all. I'm in the south west side of VA, some of us like Shorty are all the way on the coast, 4 more hours away, Wayne Sihler is in the NOVA area along with others. Then you go to the other extreme and you have some in southern Alabama and mid Florida.

Chattanooga is 8hrs from Roanoke, Greenville SC is 5 hours, mid-FLA is 11hrs. I've never been to Mississippi or Alabama but I can imagine its a stretch from here.

I have thought of getting a VA M&G together but life has been hectic here lately. We have trouble just getting folks together for a local club meeting!

yeah-- I'm a bit "off the un-beaten path" as it were. I can usually tack at least 3 hrs on to any trip just to get to a major road that leads to somewhere good.

I like the idea of SEC m/g and wheeling trips, but work always seems to foul 'em up. Maybe I need to quit and follow the SEC from stop to stop....

This is why I have always said the Crawl is more then just wheeling. It is where I have meet more of the NAXJA members over the years then any other event I have been too. This is why I think it's so important to try and make the event in a location that is desirable for all of us to want to go. I rat hole all year for that event and it will be my number one vacation till my kids decide they want to do something different. I huge M & G is a great idea but is as impractical in our chapter as the feds balancing the budget.

I appreciate everyone's input in this discussion. I guess this is one of the problems with having such a large chapter: it's hard to get everyone together.

I guess there's not enough interest to try to plan a one-time huge get together that isn't the Crawl.

I think promoting another weekend of wheeling will get you more participants. I would drive 8-10 hours 3 or 4 times a year if it was full of NAXJA folks.

I never seem to be able to catch the flog. Maybe we need to do a better job of finding a place for everyone that's a little easier to get to and see if we can do more than one event a year.

But it would have to be run by someone other than the leadership, because putting something like that together is time consuming and I don't think anyone would expect them to do it twice.

FWIW-

After attending the Crawl, It really is worth the trip and the best collection of SEC folk. My time there was amazing, I'm so glad I went, and plan to go again next year.

I think the local M&Gs are the best we are going to get. The majority consent is that there is no single location that everyone can attend. It's up to people to take the time and organize events for their areas, and members to make the effort to get to these events. We had a movement to make a secondary level of leadership, have one event coordinator per area.

Even some states are quite separated. NC is a long haul W-E, so is TN. Tim and I are and will continue to build the beach trip for members who may not be able to make the Crawl or other events in the centralized mountain area. This year kinda fell wayside because of my work schedule, but with a trip to the Crawl under our belts and a vision of the SEC leadership, next year will be better planned and more enticing. The only thing anyone can do is learn from mishaps and adapt, strengthen planning and create solid dates and expectations. As long as we grow and expand, every year is a success in my book.
