The SEC needs...

To plan a huge get together that is more centralized.

Yes, the Crawl is the big wheeling event, but for many, it's just too far away to make it. There is the annual Easter picnic in Murfreesboro, TN and the new Carolina Beach camping event that's in it's second year this year. Both of these places, though, are on opposites ends of the chapter.

I think we should host a huge BBQ around the Chattanooga/Atlanta area. The Chattanooga/Atlanta area encompasses almost all of the SEC within a 6 hour drive.

So a few thoughts on details:
1. Who could host a big gathering?
2. Raffle?
3. Food - BBQ? Potluck? Catered (could do if everyone pitched in $)
4. Swap meet!
5. When - sometime in the fall so camping would be pleasant?
6. Local wheeling trip?
7. How much lead time do you need?
8. Someone bring a RENIX scanner!

Okay, so answer the above questions and throw in any other thoughts/suggestions/ideas you might have.

1. Who could host a big gathering? No idea.
2. Raffle? Ed spends a lot of time on raffle stuff for the crawl doing for a second event would be difficult.
3. Food - BBQ? Potluck? Catered (could do if everyone pitched in $) I would vote potluck.
4. Swap meet!
5. When - sometime in the fall so camping would be pleasant? Flog is in November though.
6. Local wheeling trip? Callantee is the best "central" location for all.
7. How much lead time do you need? It would grow if you did it the same every year at the same place and time.
8. Someone bring a RENIX scanner! Lennie!

About 8 hours for me and I'm another 2 hours from the coast. The NC people would be 8 - 10 hours away.

Also, my intention was to not add another wheeling event but to add a chapter-wide M&G. I think that M&Gs are much cheaper and more doable for more people.

Hale Mountain.

Callalantee.

i agree... it keeps everyone from working to death trying to get there junk ready.

i would be down for a meet and greet.

1. Who could host a big gathering? chatt has plenty of big places to host. or knoxville
2. Raffle? i love raffles.
3. Food - BBQ? Potluck? Catered (could do if everyone pitched in $) pot luck worked awesome at the crawl
4. Swap meet! always got junk to off load on someone else
5. When - sometime in the fall so camping would be pleasant? i agree with glenn.... there are 2 big rides in nov. how about oct? (if in knoxville pick a home game weekend and ill be there :) )
6. Local wheeling trip?
7. How much lead time do you need? couple of weeks
8. Someone bring a RENIX scanner!

And that's quite a haul when neither one of us have tow pigs.

This I like. Especially if you can work it out in the fall sometime. Given that both those are in the mountains, the scenery should be wonderful if you time it right with the changing of the leaves.

I won't drive 8 hours for a m&g. That's a weekend I could spend doing something else.

I think getting people together is a great idea, but I don't think you're going to find a lot of us that live on the edges of the chapter that will drive that far for a BBQ and some hangout time.

Very true.

True, there will be some people who won't - but surely there are others that will. Additionally, if we plan it far enough in advance, people can make other plans to fill the weekend.

I'd never turn down a chance to eat some good food within a 2 hour drive from the house.

THIS!

Im with Ghost on this one, if NAXJA has a get together at Callahantee I am in, I will bring my gang of hooligans with me, usually 5-15 rigs depending on notice.

Willing to make a donation or something for a raffle or prizes if necessary.

A few of our members have tow behind grills, etc... we would love to be involved if you choose callahantee

Sorry, I misunderstood, not much into traveling long distances for not wheeling, and unfortunately the crawl was out of budget and I couldn't get the time off work.

I hope some day I am able to make an NAXJA wheeling event, Ive seen Ghost's rig and Lowrange2's rigs at the Save the Gulches ride, but it was so hectic I never got the chance to talk to either.

How about lets have this thing at MY house! :) I'm sure my wife would love to have 40 Jeeps in the front yard.

My house (You're gunna have to zoom out)---> http://classic.mapquest.com/maps?ci...34.27268&longitude=-82.359583&geocode=ADDRESS

1. Who could host a big gathering? Me. Got a 6 acre field in the front yard.
2. Raffle? I, too, love raffles.
3. Food - BBQ? Potluck? Catered - I got a ginormous grille.
4. Swap meet! always got junk to off load on someone else -I agree.
5. When - sometime in the fall so camping would be pleasant? i, also, agree with glenn....
6. Local wheeling trip? 20 minutes away. Glenn don't like it (:P) but I'm sure someone would. www.gulchesorvpark.com
7. How much lead time do you need? Me, I don't need much lead time. That's all you guys.
8. Someone bring a RENIX scanner! Why? I don't have a Renix. :)

1) RSOR

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I think it's a great idea. But the SEC is huge and getting a chapter wide m&g requires more than a BBQ.

I will drive 8 hours to wheel. I go 13 hours to WF every year. But there are a lot of folks who don't have the disposable income to drive 8 hours without turning it into a vacation and if I'm vacationing with my family, I'm probably planning to do something else.

Just my .02

No, I know you weren't. I was just saying that if we planned to have a 1 day M&G/BBQ then that would leave the other day (Sunday?) open to do whatever else.

I agree with you, though, that the chapter is pretty big and that a lot of people won't spend a weekend just for a BBQ and M&G.

Just my .02, I'd rather drive 2-3 hrs (ATL/chatt) to wheel rather than eat and talk. We can do that while we wheel!

Go idea Ed, you're on to something forsure
