Bring her along! WTF?! :D:D:D

Actually she loves wheelin' (getting better at taking pics/vid), but her flight leaves around 4 PM IIRC (She's still living in Boise). Don't think I wanna try a snow run and get her to the airport on time....

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I learned the hard way not to go on a snow run by yourself! ;) Sorry to hear that you can't make it, though.

i'm a marine but not that dumb, i got some people in mind

Snow level check: 2285' according to GoogleEarth (snow starts just after NF5510 goes under the old Milwaukee RR bridge). Hiked up the road a bit, and the snow is very dense and wet.

BTW - I only drove 10' onto the snow and backed out ;) And I had food and water for 2 days plus gear to stay overnight.

Got a really confused look from a couple in a shiny new Lexus SUV while I was airing up my tires at the bottom of Tinkham road :D

What are you saying? We will have difficulty with the snow because it will be very wet? Or that the snow level is going up? Or something else?

Did it pack ok? What are your thoughts? Do you think it will work out well as a snow run?

Thanks,
Michael

I went up to Tinkham a few weeks ago, and didn't get very far at all...it was just too deep. I got to the big rail-road trestle before I turned around.
Sounds similar. I wonder how far we can get?

Seems to pack very well - so my guess is it would easier to drive on and a lot harder to dig out of. But my snow experience is limited, I could be completely wrong. Whats your experience in thawing snow? Is it easier or harder to drive on than fresh snow?

The snow depth increased from nothing to more than a foot or so in the short distance I hiked up the road. The junction of NF5510 and NF410 is at 3500' and thats only about 3 miles beyond where I turned around, so there will be lots and lots of snow to play in.

There were also a couple downed trees across the road that had been cut - is anyone bringing a chainsaw (I don't have one)?

I will be bringing my chainsaw just in case it is needed..
