I had the flu shot 2 weeks ago but I got hit on Friday with chest pains, shortness of breath, aching all over, cold chills, 100-101 fever. Scared the hell out of me! No puking or anything like that just everything else.

The doc put me on tamaflu and a other stuff that seems to be helping some.

Lesson learned? Dont get the flu shot! I haven't gotten one in years.. Never get sick.

jeepgeek i couldnt agree more. i have never had the flu shot and i dont get either. i may get a simple cold but thats about it. i just try and eat right and drink lots of juices.
trailrider i do hope ya get better quickly though. hate seein anyone get that flu junk.

Well I almost died from the flu back in 1988, My dad broke the door down to my apartment and found me clinging to life. I had been missing for several days from work and they were about ready to let me go and called him as my emergency contact person to check on me.

I have always gotten the shot since. Never had a issue. The doc did say that this years shot may have missed the mark a bit. Its always a guessing game the CDC plays each year as to what strain of the virus that it is that will hit the hardest. I'm feeling better today but i think I'm going to miss my first day of work in over 20 years.

All I can suggest is; Tamiflu, Tylonal, lots of water.

I was able to get the fever down to under 100 last night and sleep with out dealing with cold chills and sweat.

Well damm dude.
Tamiflu and your cocktail of cough suppressants is your thing! Go for it. Some people have a greater immune system then others. I got sick like that once in my life. Hell, my room mate had walking pneumonia and didnt tell me. I had a sweats at night for a week.. go figure.
Good Luck.. i ll be praying for a good recovery!

Damn dude glad you are feeling better. I got one last year for the first time in my life..and got the flu. My best friend was about to have her baby and she was dead set on if you haven't had a flu shot you aren't going to see him in the hospital.

Never again :)

Yikes!

I had the flu one time like that back when I was in High School. Put me out of commission for a solid week. Fortunately, I've got a pretty tough immune system and rarely get sick...and even when I do it's just an annoying little bug like the common cold or something. Out of the 5 sick days I have this year from work, i've used 1.5 of them...all of which for doing stuff I needed to take care of and didn't want to burn a vacation day on.

I used to get the flu shot as a precautionary thing, but stopped about 3 years ago. Didn't make any difference in me getting sick or not, and I hate being stabbed by needles so I stopped going lol.

I'm headed back to the doc at 11am. Now I have some really bad congestion in my lungs, I wouldn't be surprised if i dont have walking pneumonia as well.

Dang, sorry man. I hope you get well soon.

Another vote for the 'i don't get the shot and I don't get sick'. I did come down with this weird, one day fever that had me at 103.6. Scared the hell outta my girlfriend. It's a weird experience waking up but never remembering to go to sleep.

Went to the doc, no pneumonia, he gave me some hydrocodone for the congestion/cough and a 5 day supply of Tamiflu. I'm going back to work tomorrow. Can't make money sitting here.

i hear ya on the money issue.. i came to work sick as a dog before. No insurance no sick days no holidays.. Work work work!

slacker!! you kids are just looking for an excuse to take a day off-- that makes a full 24 hrs you haven't worked in the last two decades-- sheesh, slacker!!

In all seriousness, don't over-do it at work. Your immune system can't fight the germ/virus if you're exhausted from pushing yourself. Tell 'em up front that you're sick and try to get some help while you're there.

Yep I'll take it easy. After 25 years of service and 20 years perfect attendance, they owe me that.

Another "no flu shot, no flu" person here. We've been doing the "natural" thing last couple of years. At the very hint of any kind of ailments, I start chugging oj and Vit C/Echinacea pills as well as taking liquid colloidal silver. It really helps!

I've been lucky this year but I've never had a flu shot. Me and needles don't get along very well.

Hope you better quick.

I went back to work today and did fine. I still out worked the slackers around me and they left me alone because they were all scared of the bubonic plague that I was apparently afflicted with. Bunch of sissys. My boss told me to go home and I said I would if he would pay me for the day, I nver heard back from him:eyes:
