'The Bruise'

I got this Jeep back in December '07'. During this transition, it got nicknamed 'The Bruise'. I think because it's black, had 2 blue doors for a while, and I put in a purple/burgandy headliner.

Before: 12/07 (this is the only before pic I have)

When I bought it, the ad said it needed some "TLC" and the guy wanted $750.00 for it. Now I really didn't lie to the man, but I didn't quite tell him how into Cherokee's I was. I acted a little 'stupid' (which is quite easy for me) and I got it for $400.00.

I'll post a couple of more pictures tomorrow and a few details of all I did to it.

Thanks,
Dan.

Very nice. You gonna bring that one to Moab this year? JIM.

Looks nice Dan, real nice.

Are the newer generation decals you put on it yellow? I want to do the same style decals on my '96 resto..... but couldn't decide on color. I was debating between silver and blue but if they're available in yellow..... and technically, my rig is a Classic model so if I can get the classic decals in yellow........well then my decision is clear! :D

Lemme know your source for the decals please!

I think those are grand cherokee decals, without the "Grand" I know some grands had that style "Sport" on them. And they are gold

That looks killer.

First off, let me tell you that looks can be very deceiving.

On to a little info......

1990 Sport, 4.0, AW4, 242, 177,000 miles. When bought, it passed emissions but not mechanical inspection.

So far I've done new exhaust manifold and better exhaust from donor 90 4 door. New belt and hoses. New t-stat. All new relays. CPS. Ford 19lb. fuel injectors. Tune-up. Rear main. (more on that later) Replaced steering, track-bar, sway bar links from '01' XJ. Hodge-podge lift kit. Rubicon wheels. Toyo A/T's. New flares, end caps, and bumperettes. Somewhat newer interior, including burgundy headliner, (adds character) new stereo, rear sound-bar, rear seat, and a thorough cleaning. The paint is what it is and what I paid for, Maaco. Aside from putting different doors on it, I had no body work done to it. And it shows. I actually need to do the bottom with some bedliner to alleviate some of the rust issues. But it looks okay. The vinyl stickers I got at my local FastSigns store. I got (2) CHEROKEE (2) Sport (2) 4X4 and (1) Jeep for $25.00. The 4.0 with the naked lady I got off of eBay.

Pictures in a little better light.

Now on to the bummer part and what needs to be finished. For some reason, after doing the rear main seal, it now has none to little oil pressure. I'm running 2 quarts of ATF in it now, and then I'm going to re-do the rear main, rod and crank bearings, and a new oil pump. I also have to do the passenger side axle shaft, changing from 260s to 297s. Front axle seals, and install Aussie locker in the rear.

All this, for a rig I'm going to park at a hotel I live at 2 days a week. I figure if I'm going to have a rig I can use while out of town, I might as well be able to do some easy trails around town and down at Moab. I can do Moab in the afternoon and be back to the hotel by mid-evening.

Anyway that's it in a nutshell. I hope I get to enjoy it.

Dan.

what did you give to fast signs so they could make them?

Right but did you give them a PICTURE or sometyhing to go by?
I actually took the some brand new emblems I got from the Jeep dealer, friend works there, and we measured every sticker for heigth and width. As for the stickers themselves, they have internet access to factory emblems online. We (the guy at the store and myself) searched the term 'Jeep' and picked what I wanted.

I tell you though, there's a couple of guys on eBay that also sell vinyl sticker emblems. Search for 'Jeep Cherokee Decals' and you can see from there too.

LOL - mine's a MAACO paint job too. They do half way decent 20 footer paint jobs. The equivalent of polishing a turd I suppose, but it does the job. :D

Yup. The bad part about them is if you happen to buy say a Yellow Jeep that is oh, I don't know...in Chicago and all you have is pictures, it makes you really upset when you get it home and find out just how horrible that 20 footer paint job is.

That being said, I plan on pulling all the windows, trim, flares and anything else that needs to be painted behind and having them do it again. I just can't see spending tons of money on a paint job thats going to get dented and scratched eventually anyway.

I never thought of it that way, but you're right. I knew what I was getting though and got what I paid for. It's litterally going to be a 'hotel' car. A little more capable than most, but a 'hotel' car just the same.

I took mine in with no door handles or locks, mirrors, license plates, bumperettes, flares, grill, and wipers. They taped off the windows, and the roof rack rails and painted everything.

I gotta say, that thing looks real clean man! I like the custom badging. This thing looks 300% better than when you got it, very impressive! One of the cleanest lookin' 2 doors I have ever seen man.

:) Word.
