The 8.25 4.56 gear swap... vibration issue.

Well, we installed the 2 degree shims, and it is not any better.

We figured out that my hack n tap has at least 5 times the play than tims does. Not good.

Swap in a atlas, that should fix the hack and tap! :eyes:

Also try to think positive about this . . . I bet you are an expert on changing shims! :o

Dave are you offering me your atlas?
Ok. I'll take it.

The vibes were there above 72 mph before, now that the shaft spins faster, it starts earlier.

I'm curious as to the play you mention from your RE H&T. I have the same set up and it seems to work fine for me. I get a minor "buzz" at 50 mph and it goes away at about 53 mph, but I attribute that to my BFG M/T's growling on the pavement.

The RE flange is supposed to be tapered in the spline hole. So by tightening it down with the shaft bolt, it should make it a tight fit on the shaft. Maybe you chould try wrapping the splines a turn or two with pipe teflon tape, if you feel the spline contact is not tight enough...just a thought.

too bad the cash for clunkers program is over...:gee: !!!1
Your fun factory = :flame:

:smsoap:

Good thought Ivan. Josh and I talked about that. I am going to put enough to the point where I have to tap it on.

I talked to RE, and they said if it wore out, it was MY fault. I didn't shim it before, and it didnt vibrate at normal operating speed. So I figured it would be ok.

Honestly, the guy was kind of a d!ckhead. He was really quick to tell me what the problem was. "Oh its your front shaft". No, hold on, let me finish the story. "Oh you should shim it." I know, I did, but it didn't help.... blah blah blah.
