Testing the water: selling my jeep

I don't really want to but it looks like I've either got a bad head or bad motor in my mazda dd. The jeep is a great toy but it's not as realistic a dd for toting around two kiddos as say something on 3" and 31's. The money from selling the jeep could pay for fixing the mazda and maybe set aside a small piggy bank for an old 2 door.

Anyone know any reputable motor shops in Centex?

I've been drinking. And thinking. It's a dangerous combination.

Oh yeah....what money I did have from a tax return and saved up to pay off a cc just went to a charitable cause of keeping an inlaw from living in their car. Rent and bills caught up on. Let's see how long this fails. F.

Source a motor to swap in?

Looking at it now. It's a 3.0 duratec. Car is a 2005 mazda 6. Apparently, the cheapest would be getting a longblock from a fusion/milan.

Yeah, need to get to that. Right now, just looking to see which years/models work best.

I haven't even pulled the head yet but here are the details: A long time ago, someone who didn't realize how sensitive aluminum heads are replaced the spark plugs. Now every other year or so, it'll spit one out. I didn't trust helicoils for that so I ordered a fancy timesert kit (read: expensive but badass). Well last weekend, it spits out rear bank middle plug. I got around to working on it a few days ago and noticed right away that it decimated the boot and a chunk of the COP ignition piece. The plug was missing the wire end of the plug (not electrode but the metal at the other end) I swapped in the insert and new plug as well as a spare coil. When I go to fire it up, is struggles to fire and then there is a loud rattle coming from the top side. Ruh roh.

I bought a HF inspection cam to look and the top of the piston looks pretty grungy but I don't see any physical damage. The rare earth magnet on a flexible wire says otherwise. I pulled out two small hard metal shards that I have no idea where they came from. Anyways, I fished around a lot longer but could never get anything out. Buttoned it up and it still fires rough and has a slightly lesser top end noise.

I'm thinking that possibly a valve got janked up and I'll need a new head. The worst fear is that the cylinder walls got possibly damaged and I'll need to do the whole damn thing.

Pulling the valve cover tonight to check out the cams/lobes and timing chain at that spot to make sure there's proper tension.

You DON'T want to sell the XJ... if you want to TOUGH you will keep it! We don't want to lose another to the ricer community ;)

Haha...i should followed through with my secret evil plan way back when and sold it to buy your old blue jeep before sam did. But then any money I would have made from that exchange i would have put back into making it more road unworthy than it is and I'd be right back in the same spot.
