Test

Thanks Scott

I knew there had to be a few sailors out there.

That was a J-35, during Santa Barbara to King Harbor a few years back that I drove. 35 to 40 knots on a blast reach with 5-10 foot swells to throw the stern around. It was a get it going into the upper teens, horrific crash, recover, and do it all over again for 25 miles.

The photo helicopter just happened to be there for a keel showing spin out that makes for a great pic, it also ended up on the cover of Santana here in So Cal.

I did a Chicago-Mac race in your area a few years back on a J-29 from out here. What a variable set of condx to deal with! Great race though, and I hope to do another soon. This time I'll have another "off road" vehicle to explore the area with...

There's a couple of others in the club that I know of.

I used to own a Morgan 24, once during a double handed race I sailed into windshere under a storm cloud and knocked us over on our side. The rudder was out of the water and I had to release the jib sheet with the winch partially under water. Great times

I did a couple of Port Huron to Mackinac races in a Beneteau 38. Got caught in storm one night, we where doing 16 kts surfing down 18' waves.

I do miss the boat this time of year. :sunshine:

Wooohoo!!!! Sailing rocks and it's been too damn long since I did it last! Here in US I sailed Shields primarily but in Europe I sailed quite a few different sailboats (from Omega upwards). Anyways... maybe we should do some sort of a relay race one of these days? XJ then sailboat?

Anyways getting back to sailing, I always wanted to sail a tall ship, so maybe one of these days we should do a NAXJA crew for Cutty Sark race or something like that?

Scott Mac:

I know what you mean about Tstorms, I got my education during the Chi-Mac that I did, very mean suckers...

My wife is from Charlevoix, we plan on making a trip there with the XJ next year. We will be towing our I-14 there for a regatta (Julyish), and I'm wondering if there's some wheelin' to be done in the area?

Kejtar:

I love the Shields. Spent alot of Thursday afternoons in Newport Harbor racing those boats. I don't know about now, but 10 years ago, we used to get 15 or so on the line. Although I spend alot of time on mid sized keel boats, my heart is in dinghys!

Sorry to hear about you rolling your rig. I think I past by you guys on Sunday morning, 3N14. I was headed down for supplies, and never ran into anyone for the rest of the day. I know I recognized one white XJ, we meet him the weekend before. T-Bent I think. Seems like I'm having a hard time hooking up with people to go on trails with. I've been doing alot on my own, would much rather be with a group though...

Were you the one that started to do a u turn and then didn't? Cause we thought that the rig will follow us but following Tim Speedy Gonzales Bent is sometimes difficult :D There was 3 of us: white black and white. The last white was me and well..... you've seen the pics of what it looked like the next morning.

Yep, that was me. It was one of those defining moments where I almost forgot that we needed ice and water for the cooler. The wife set me straight, and I figured I would find you guys again around Holcomb or John Bull. Next time...

Glad to hear that no one was seriously hurt, and thank God you didn't find the outer edge of the road and go down. Thinking about that kind of thing keeps me up at night.

I think alot of people would like to known what kind of situation you were in... at least I know I would.
