I'm planning a trip to Tellico for thanksgiving but I can't find any good info on camping there. I've looked through tellico4x4.com and they have links to campgrounds but I was wondering about staying at Tellico. I've read of people camping along trail 5 by the river. Sounds good enough for me, lol. How much is it per night, and how is it setup? Do you pay at a ranger station and get an assigned spot or is it like the drop box and you pick a spot? I also read that there is absolutely no alcohol allowed in vehicles. That kinda sucks, I dont wanna drink and drive during the day but it would be nice at night while hangin around a campfire. Are campfires allowed anyways? Well any info would be appreciated, I'm just trying to get a good idea of what to expect when I get there.

For the past three years, the SE Chapter basecamp has been at Crawford's campground (on the Murphy NC side) search this forum for more info and directions. Crawford's is a very 4x4 friendly CG with clean facilities, fuel pump and a repair shop.

You can camp anywhere on the trails (that isn't specifically posted "no camping here') but you are correct that alcohol is banned throughout the forest and OHV area. The USFS charges a $5 per-day fee, that includes four wheeling, camping etc...

okay here's the deal.....crawfords is nice.....has showers and everything....for a primative campsite its gunna cost you 7.50 a night....i think a play with electrical is 15.00 a night and electricity and water is 25.00 a night...only negative thing about crawfords is you gotta drive a few miles before you get to the actual park...

Now there the statline campground....which ends when the gravel road ends. Or at the end of trail 5. Now its pretty nice but the problem is getting there to get a spot cause if its busy i don't know if you'll get a spot. Its also free. but its first come first serve.

You can also rent a canbin. From tellico cabin rentals if your wuss...

hope this helps you out. My club is running tellico next weekend so we'll be sure to tear it up for you.... hehehehehe

Well thanks for the help. I have the trail map to Tellico that I had ordered a while back and was wondering about the stateline campground. I think between there or on the actual trails I should be able to find a decent spot since I'm getting there on tuesday. My parents may be going up there to spend the holiday also which would be nice because I'd have a place to go take a warm shower. I can't wait, I just got my RE 5.5" lift today and installing this weekend, I'm gonna have a great time breaking it in.
