Tax refund... options/advice?

Happy Saturday night all!!!


With a little bit of money coming back from taxes this year, i have would like to get your experienced opinions.

cash will be ~$300.

Options:

1. finally get a tool chest, round out my tool collection a bit more.
2. finally get to a somewhat local JY, get my rear disc brake conversion going as well as a cheapo junkyard 2-3" lift
3. I'm VERY interested in learning to weld. I have not really done much yet at all, and whats more, i don't really have anything to weld (the heep is still pretty much just my DD). but it interests me and i think it would be fun to learn
4. buying a junked but rebuildable 4.0, taking it apart and learning about it as i go, and slowly either rebuilding back to specs, or possibly the start of a stroker if i get more serious.
5 ??? better ideas? lol


If i did lean towards welding, could some of you experienced guys tell me how to go about getting started? i assume most gas shielded stuff is too expensive for the beginner. i was looking at a cheap MIG at Harbor freight, but i would want to be able to weld thick enough stuff later on if i get more serious. By thick enough, i guess i mean what the more hardcore guys use for cages and such.

i have only recently begun reading and learning about welding, so i don't pretend to know much about it!

A tool box would be nice. A decent small Craftsman box with ball bearing drawers is going to run you about $400 unless you have a sears outlet store near you and you can puck up a dented one for $200 :clap: Youll have it for the rest of your life if you just have it sitting in the shop.

I picked up a decent craftsman toolchest off craigslist for $100. It isn't their cheapest model either.

My house has a one car garage, so it's about worthless to try and park a car in with all the crap we have. On the plus side there is a small attic space above the garage that we haven't really used since the garage door is in the way. Well i spent some time throwing some plywood up there along with about as much crap as i could fit.

That being said, i think i am going to try and build a nice work bench about half the length of then get a craigslist tool chest to put under it. I saw a 7 drawer (top part) craftsman for 75$ that i could prob get for 50$ and that would do me for a while.

THEN i could do the rear disc conversion too!

any of you local SE guys do it yet? how much did it run you? i have heard ~200 depending on parts and dif fluid and what not.

Good plan. Can get anything done if you cannot find your tools or dont have a place to put the project.

I'm on the tool chest train. Nothing makes me happier working on the Jeep when I have the right tools and can find them easily.

Same here. Working on your Jeep (or anything else) needs to begin with an organized tool system! I think starting out in a disarray is a bad way to start. I like keeping things clean and organized. You'll be happy after you do so.

One piece of advice...remember you get what you pay for when buying tool storage equipment. Maybe try to find some used stuff on Craigslist. Who cares if your tool chest is already scratched up a little...you'll save yourself some money that way!
