putting in the aasye in my 00 xj and everything is going good except when i put the case halves back together i cant turn the shafts. there is no movement at all. i put the shift fork back on to see if i could get it to move but no go. is the mode fork binding. any help would be great. i dont want to split the halves again, but i dont wanna get it all on and break something either.

The only way that you should be able to turn the shafts is if the t-case is in neutral. Otherwise the transmission will prevent you from turning it.

even with the shafts off. it will turn up until the point the case halves pull tight together, then no turn, is that normal. seems like if the shafts turn free with the back half off then they should when the back half is screwed on. please help

if the jeep is in neutral and the front and rear shafts are off, and the t/c is in 4low the case should turn right? the shift linkage is still binding and i cant get it to budge.

The most common mistake in the alignment of the oil pump. After that is the selector itself, this is why doctors dont like to diagnos problems over the phone!

thanks rcp and dirk, im feeling the love! i think i need to rotate the pump.

Don't the pump only go on one way. I believe mine did. There should be a notches on the tail housing to match to the pump "ears"

I hate to say it, but I don't think you have any choice. If you don't split the case to check what's binding, you risk doing major damage, so you pretty much have to open it up to double-check everything you did.

You're sure the tranny is in Neutral and not Park, right? You said it won't turn in 4Lo -- what about the other positions, are they all equally bound up?

got it fixed. i wanna thank every one on this board for all there help and input. i had the pump on the inside of the case. duh. i guess ive been wrenching on this thing for about two weeks trying to get the ome 3" on then the disconnects. i had vibes and installed the sye. i havent stopped wrenching for a while and it was getting to me. needless to say i put the pump on the outside and it bolted right up. thanks again everyone.
