Figured this is probably the best area to post in.

Here's a link to their page

Kinda cool, what I like is how compact they are (I do mostly crawling, so clearance is always an issue). Sound isn't a concern to me.
Anyway, I'm just lookin for some more info on them and maybe a sound clip if there's one out there.
And yeah, I searched... NAXJA, google, youtube... didn't find any XJs.

Apparently. I came across the disc in a new catalog and googled it to get some info, their site came up. So they must be.
:dunno:

whats the point?

They are glasspacks with tunable discs to modify the backpressure.....more applicable to motorcycles than autos, IMO.

I ran dual Trapps behind a 4.3 V-6 years ago, they were noisy and after about a year, I swapped them out for dual Flowmasters and the increase in low-end torque was immediate.

You can tune them some but they are still worthless. A friend of mine had some on his 95 Chevrolet 1/2 ton years ago. They sounded really good and if you reduced the number of discs it really picked up the bottom end and quited the truck down. It also cut the nuts off up top. Taking the caps off they ran the best and sounded the best, making them a glorified exhaust tip.

When he took them off his truck he got the wild idea to put them on his race car(63 nova with a 396). He had the big supertraps anyways so it seemed it might work. With the discs on even the max amount it cut the balls right off of the car. It ran much better with the 4" flowmasters lol.

For sure not good with a turbo, with a turbo you want zero backpressure. Besides most of the time you can get away with no muffler on a turbo car.

I don't have nor will I ever have a turbo on my heep, so that's not an issue.
Really I'm just looking to see what the advantages/disadvantages of this are.

Advantages, you can quiten it down or make it louder all you want, slightly moving your torque curve around as well. Disadvantage, if you quiten it down, which moves your torque curve lower as well(less discs) it cuts the nuts off in the higher RPM. They also sound wierd as the air kind of "flutters" through the discs. Sound great with the caps off the end though.

I remember a neighbor back in the early 90's having it on his turbo supra. It was very raspy and midrangy sounding. I do recall him having issues with the discs.

LOLS! About 5 years back, I bought a 64 Merc Comet with a 289 & a 4-spd that had a pair of Supertrapps coming out under the rear bumper. Nothing too special about them, other than the odd look. :viking:

Don't have a pic of the rear, just this one of the front.

It was a sweet little car.
