Super Cherokee "in the wild"

That's if you own any Cherokee! My hosts found out that I had a 2-door Limited and it was 20 questions time.
you took the photos there? Hmmm I wonder if the parts over there can fit our Cherokees. If so, can you get parts from there for us Jeepers? Pretty puleeeeze! :worship:

I've heard from at least 2 other people that they still build Cherokees in a China plant. Due to them being communists they can pretty much do whatever they wish. Has anyone else heard this? Nice XJ by the way.

Yes, they still build them new over there. From what I could see, they're exactly like the Cherokees here, with all the factory squeaks and rattles of our Jeeps. I could see no visible differences in the XJ I ran around in for 2 weeks and U.S. models. Aside from the 'Super Cherokee', they also sell new XJs and WJ Grand Cherokees. There's also a Jeep 2500, but I didn't see one of those. Thankfully, they don't have the Liberty! ;)

They use the same engines (4 & 6), trannies and transfer cases. Turbo diesels are available, but restricted from areas with high smog. 4 cylinders with 5-speeds are more common due to the better mpg. I saw lots of modified Jeeps, but mostly just wild stickers and brush guards. I did see a couple of mild lifts, but nothing too radical.

If you've not been to China, the place will surprise you. They really are a bunch of evolving car nuts. You learn quickly that what you see on here on TV is far different from reality. I also wouldn't get too excited about buying a Jeep over there and bringing it back to the U.S. Overall, they cost twice as much as our trucks do. It appears that they have capitalism figured out!

Cherokee

Hey WE hold our CHEROKEES in high esteem here in the states, that is until something breaks, then like any other vehicle,it is not very nice what we call them.........

why would you deliberately want something that's made in China?

I think I like mine better. That doesn't look any more "super" than a US spec XJ except for the cheesy dome. I guess with the dome they have head room to stand up in it. :D

It's also stretched so there's more rear seat legroom. Overall, the BJ Super Cherokee is what DaimlerChrysler should have done with the Cherokee, instead of the Liberty. Chinese or not, if I could buy one I would do so in a heartbeat. It's still better than paying $$$ to DaimlerChrysler for a Liberty.

It appears that their Jeeps are made from the same production equipment that ours were built from. I'm serious, I don't think you could tell one apart from those built here. Yes, they all have full smog equipment. The 'lump' on the Super Cherokee is stamped into the roof, not bolted on.

BTW, much of our stuff is already built in China (under contract) for American companies. You see signs for Fortune 500 companies everywhere you go. It's also rater interesting eating at Pizza Hut in downtown Beijing, the toppings are a bit "different"... :wierd:

cat sausage?
yech I hate cats in general! They keep eyeballing ya, it is unerving! correction... Koreans like cats, Chinese like dogs. And NO, I don't eat dogs or cats, never tasted them either! I have however, eaten Elk, gator, frog's legs, and goat.

Hey gator_grabber... if ya don't mind me asking whatcha doin over there in China?

There is a lot of roads in China that are underdeveloped or just plain nonexistent... imagine goin' wheeling to work and home everyday... best of both worlds! :viking: But rather wheel here in the States everyday :patriot: and maybe explore other countries every once in a while. Wouldn't it be cool to rent an XJ or wrangler in other countries like Antartica, or Egypt and go wheeling there? :viking:

Here's the link to Beijing Jeep. Click on the Super Cherokee icon on the left side of the page for model options. This is the English version.

Beijing Jeep

wow looks like they stretched it 4 inches longer to the wheelbase. Dang that is a lot easier to get in and out of the back seat! Too bad they didn't make it for us, what are we? chopped liver? I think the Krauts are paying us back with the stupid Liberty. :bawl: Looks like there is more headroom with the bulge on the roof... kinda dopey looking. I like the rear seat headrests!
