First off let me say that I am just the little guy. I don’t have a huge budget (its very small really) and I don’t compete in any races nor have any sponsors. I’m building a ’97 Jeep XJ for trail duty.
I wanted to post this because the kind of service, thoughtfulness, and quality Summit Machine has very much needs to be recognized.
In a very short version of the story I had ordered a set of 35-spline D60 drive flanges from Mike @ Summit Machine a while back and I was amazed at the quality and the workmanship that went into them.
So when I needed stuff for my suspension there was one place I was going to turn. Anyway I placed a second order with a bunch of joints, poly bushings, tube adapters, etc from Mike a little while ago (just a little, right Mike?
).
Most of the items came in and everything was just fine, but there were a few setbacks with the flex joints Mike was trying to turn out. After a few phone calls, and a couple of very understandable delays, I was on the phone with Mike and mentioned that I was going to need the joints soon or he would be holding my build back. So at this point Mike offered to drop ship me joints from a completely different company at no cost to me! Well there ended up being an issue with the other company’s shipping and I never got those joints.
On the phone again with Mike he felt horrible, you could hear it in his voice. He genuinely wanted to keep me happy. I mentioned how my plans had changed for my front suspension so the delay wasn’t all that bad it actually worked out for the good at that point. After hearing this, Mike very generously upped my order from the 4 flex joints to 7 flex joints with the additional tube adapters and jam nuts for no cost. I was pumped!
A week or so passes and I’m now thinking about what I need to do for steering. I think I’ve gotten everything figured out and I need to purchase it. Then, I call Mike and looking for an update on my flex joints. While on the phone I pick his brain for ideas and suggestions on what rod ends to use for steering. He asks me if I’d ordered anything yet and I told him I had not. He tells me to hold on a second and comes back and says no problem, he’s going to help me out. He cut me a huge deal on all the hardware, 7/8” rod ends, everything I would need to get setup. To put the deal into perspective, I got everything I needed with quality Rod End Supply 7/8” heims for the cost of the cheap 5/8” stuff. Needless to say, I was very pleased! I got them in and was able to continue with my build.
So a little time passes and now I’m getting down to the wire and I need to have these flex joints to get my suspension done. Mike after hearing that he was going to be holding me back changed my order yet again. This time I almost didn’t believe it, he was going to send me his famous Jimmy Joints instead of the flex joints as those wouldn’t be ready in time.
THAT’S RIGHT FOLKS, on top of everything else Mike was now sending me SEVEN JIMMY JOINTS for the cost of four flex joints.
For those that don't know, Jimmy Joints have 60degrees of total misalignment and run $126ea. Now these normally come setup for a 3/4" bolt. Given the everything else in my suspension is 9/16" Mike made up some balls with the 9/16" hole.
This Tuesday he had them sent 3-day select on his dime so I’d have them for this weekend. I got them in today and was speechless, they are an absolute work of art. Every detail is perfect. Even the tool is perfect.
If anyone needs anything that Summit Machine might carry, give them a call 801-576-8424 and tell them Bill sent you. Check out www.summitmachine.com
Mike and the guys @ Summit Machine just plain… well rock!
Oh, and best of all everything is ENTIRELY MADE IN THE USA! :us:
