i am going to build a stroker motor for my 94 but i have no clue where to start. i have an extra 4.0 motor that i am gonna use the blockout of. what else do i need, i know i need a 258 crank but what year woudl be the best? i dont need the most horsepower posible but i am looking for like a 4.6L

can some one give me a parts list of what i am going to need? any help would be good because i have to start collecting parts now, my motor is making noises!

i did that and it did help a little bit but i was hopeing that maybe someone would be able to give me a list of everything they used, for example the list that i found did not inclue which bearing i am to use, whether it be 4.0 or 4.2 bearings.

OK, you need a 258 crank, (any year or weight will do) it needs to be reground so that it will fit the 4.0 bearings. You will also need the 258 rods and either +0.030 or +0.060 pistons. You will also need new seals and gaskets.

Also you need to know how you want to make it? how extreme do you want to go? Are you getting another Cam? if so you will need to make sure your head is dialed in.

I'm no expert, but I've managed to read Dr. Dynos pages (which lists all his parts he used), and others as well as several posts.

good luck!

I know you're trying to help the guy out...but...

The 258 crank needing grounding to fit 4.0 bearings is incorrect...sometimes you only need to "clean" it... bearings are the same

you do not need 258 rods... You can use custom or 242 rods w/custom pistons...

Your best bet is to check out the strokers group on Yahoo, and as many stroker sites as possible and sit down, research and decide which way you want to build it depending on your budget...

There are dozens of combinations to choose from, and unless you understand quench, compression ratios and dish cc, it can get confusing fast...

Take your time, read everything until you're comfortable with the concept and do it right

here's a few more since you already know Dyno's page...

Here are my stroker write-ups:

http://www.jeep4.0performance.4mg.com/stroker.html has general information about stroking the 4.0 and various options available.

http://www.angelfire.com/my/fan/stroker.html has specific details about my own 4.6L stroker build-up including a comprehensive parts list to guide anyone building a stroker for the first time.

The AMC 258 crankshaft is at the core of any stroker. Any year from '72-'90 will do.
When it comes to rod/piston combinations, you have two options. The first is to use AMC 258 rods with stock-type 4.0 pistons. The second is to use stock 4.0 rods with custom forged pistons. The latter is more expensive but it gives you more options when it comes to building in the desired compression ratio and quench height.
