stop the ban on youth dirt bike's/atv's!

But you know the little rug rats chew on everything. They probably drink the gas too. It's really for their own good.

F*****g idiots in congress,...

because of lead being use to cut deep grooves in valve stems and brake parts the CPSC has put a ban on youth sized dirt bikes and atv's sized for ages 6-12. The powersports industry has proved that these lead components pose no threat to children. Click here to help stop the ban http://mic.org/letters.cfm

Done did - I think it's a stupid ban. Going off of PPM for lead - and including batteries! - is a dumb idea (what about PowerWheels and the little electric buggies we let the tots roll around in? Does that mean they're going to be outlawed as well, since gel cells all have lead plates?)

But, how does lead get used to cut "deep grooves in valve stems and brake parts" - I don't get that. I've handled plenty of lead, and it could barely cut butter. Hell, there are common plastics that can cut lead! Just curious...

I don't know why they use lead but seriously, do they think the kid is gonna hop off the bike and start eating the brake parts and valve stems or something. This ban is ridiculous. There's a bunch of little kids who love riding and a lot of pro's started out at the 6-12 years old range to.

Illustrative of what happens when pols go career - they get breathing that rarefied air, and hypoxia sets in. Look up the psychological and neurological (and cognitive) effects of hypoxia if you don't believe me.

This is why we should either A) institute hard term limits, or B) rescind all payment and retirement for Congresscritters. I'm honestly inclined to think that the latter option would be more effective...

Nice idea, but if the money is outlawed, only outlaws will have money. They won't go home broke. They'll just get more dirty money.

The only solution to asshattery like this is an informed and involved electorate.

We don't have one, we won't have one, so we get the government we deserve.

Sorry.

I googled it and the first return started with this-

Acting Chairman Nancy Nord of the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission has decided to hold off for a year enforcing the new lead law that has forced dealers to yank youth-model off-road motorcycles and ATVs off their showroom floors.

So apparently they're safe until next spring?

There was a report somewhere online the other day that they were pushing the law back while they revise the wording to exempt 'cycles and atvs.
I hope it's true.
