Stock Rims

235/75/r15 fits nicely. No trimming required, no rubbing.
Check your local C/L ads. Here's one:

Check in your local chapter's For Sale board. Maybe post up your wtb there.

You could look into Treadwrights as well. Used to be High-Tec Retreads. 235/75 AT go for $60 - $70 each. New BFG ATs will run you $125ish and up.

I have 31x10.5 on stock rims

for a primary DD with a lil weekend wheeling action every now and then I also give the nod to bridgestone dueler REVOS's I had them in 30x9.50's for a while and they seem to be the best dang tire I have ever had in rain and snow they handle well in the dry too. never did much more than fire roads with them but never had any problems either. my biggest complaint about them was they dont have the 3ply sidewall like BFG's so I was scared to really wheel them. I have a set of used BFG 31's that I use for wheelin in the rocks

I have BFG AT/KO's in 235 on my 98XJ, GY AT/D2's on my wifes ZJ in 235 and Kumho AT's on the TJ in 30x9.50. The kumho's and the GY's are wearing better than the BFG's :(

I realize my post may be too late as you probably have already bought an xj and put on new tires, but this may help somebody else - anyway I installed 235/75/15s (Hankook Offroad rated) and have been pretty happy with them - from Discount Tire - about $400 all in all... Got about 12k on them, still sound / ride like new and are great on the light trails we travel down....

i have the bfg km originals, i have about 6k on them and still look new... they seem to be wearing really well for as much as i offroad and drive on the street.

I'm really liking the firestone destination a/t 's I put on about a month ago. They handle great and are extremely quiet. I have only taken them on a mild off road venture (dirt trail scenic stuff) and they did fine. The duelers are nice also, but a bit more pricey. If you will be spending 90% of your time on the highway, i'd say both of these tires do great for a stock xj. Check out tirerack.com for reviews of various tires. It will give you an idea of which tire is best for you.
