Hey guys has anyone ever broken spider gear teeth off in 8.25 29 spline?

Went wheelin yesterday broke off 2 teeth. 1 put hole in rear cover, other one broke going 35

mph locking up rear end on the hi-way on the way hm after patching rear cover to limp hm.

Can't say I've ever seen one go boom. I even ran an 8.25 Lincoln Locked for about 2 years before finally going back to an open diff in the rear and never had any issues.

Crazy part about this is that wasn't doing anything that crazy. Crappy part is

that I just re built and geared to 4.88s a month ago and now have to put all

new bearings in again due to the first tooth putting a hole in the cover and

didn't know it and ran out of fluid costly failure. :(

Pictures are on my old phone but I blew up spider gears in my rear D44.

I was running about 45mph down the highway (in front wheel drive due to broken rear driveshaft) when it decided to let go in my D30. The front tires all of a sudden stopped turning...

Trying to decide now fix back stock or lock it. So lunch box or ox locker?

That is the big question now. Jeep is a 98 Cherokee 8.25" lift, f150 rear springs,

1.5" shackle, shackle relocation kit, ruff stuff chassis stiffeners, Rough County

long arm kit, 35/12.50/17 Baja Claws, Rubicon 17" blk wheels, 9500 lbs winch,

smitty front bumper, or fab comp rear bumper, 4.88s, custom build 1.5" dom

sliders, cut fenders. Mainly off road toy that i drive to wheel-in spots.

Not sure how to up load pic.

If you're running 35s and have to rebuild the case anyway I'd go full case locker.

D44 spider gears went boom a couple years ago. That was a fun day... One thing lead to another and I did new spider gears, LSD packs, and disc brake conversion all in a night before wheeling. I think I got 3 hours of sleep then.

Spool it! Cost and performance effective, if it's only driven to the trails it won't cause you a huge headache on the road.

Now here is a good question, lunch box or select-able, i have installed both tons of times but never really ran them, what do u guys like better, i am thinking select-able just cause open til u lock it then its a spool basically, just because it does get drove on the street from time to time, i have had Detroits, great locker but little loud and sketchy on the street in corners especially in the rain. Spool is great for only off road or drag car, not for street use. Like i said before i drive this to wheeling spots not trailer queen. Thanks guys for input

If you're running 35s and have to rebuild the case anyway I'd go full case locker.

The full case (selectable) locker should be stronger than the luchbox locker in the stock case.

Definitely stronger since it doesn't use factory pin, just a lot more money. who is running a rear lunch box on here just trying to see how folks like them since i personally haven't ran 1. most likely looking at running an ox locker since they are not far from me and i am a dealer for them.
