I did a search and all the threads that seemed like they would be helpful turned into a giant argument about other peoples credabilty and knowledge on car audio. But my question is simple, so i hope that this thread doesnt take a turn for the worst.
Well
What speakers should I buy, my back sony explodes are starting to sound... well blown. I'm looking to replace them with somthing better, but something thats not to pricy. I found these on crutchfeild and I'm leaning towards the $69.99 alpines but am willing to pay the extra few bucks if the others are that much better. If there are some im just overlooking let me know.
Also, theres always an also, should the good new speakers go up front or way out back and the Sonys from the front go to the back or just put the new ones in the back.
It's a '92 4.0 4 door with no sound bar, want to put one in but its too cold up here in Maine to scower the junk yards.
Thanks all in advance.

Im not a pro tech audio pod myself but.....

Im using two Alpine 6x9's and have them in the back. I plan on a matched set of 5-6" rounds (a little smaller) for the front (I like the way the sound balances out front to back and as back is farther away it needs at least for me bigger speakers where the fronts are closer I use them to just fill in the balance). Im also using an Alpine 300 watt amp. I also plan on adding a smaller amp to drive two MTX Digital Loud speakers I already own and I cant say enough about them! The MTX's are boxed 8" bass and two inch cone tweeters for somewhere in the rear. They give me all the bass I want.

I have yet to permanently install anything just playing with locations right now. Im also planning on adding two small tweeters (directional type) overhead up front aimed directly at my ears. Thats just my taste and the way I like my sound. The tweeters are cheap and add a good bit of overall range and clarity for me personally.

The 6x9 Alpines are 3 ways btw. Im not one to go the mega bass route even though my MTX's cover that area quite well.

If I could just find someone to donate a Nakamichi head unit now!!!!!! Ya know, the $1000.00 one!!!!

I like my music to sound as good on low volume as cranked up w/as minimal distortion as I can afford. I highly value the rate of distortion specs on my equipment coupled with their dynamic range. My system was done on a small budget over time. The Jeep I just got just happens to have an Alpine CD head unit already sittin in the hole! Im happy!

Prior to this I was using an older Pioneer super tuner unit w/casette player. It did a good job but not as distortion free as I would rather have.

Im a classic rock fan myself. So I like hearing all the ranges of the music I play. From a crisp clean trebble to a good clean sounding bass and all in between. I may add an adjustable reverb at some point.

My theory is if I have a goood enough system I dont want or need an equalizer to distort the sound. I like playing it the way it was recorded and meant to be heard.

Just my uneducated 2 cents.

www.cardomain.com will have all the information you may be looking for. I have a sound bar, so I cant help all that much, but it is nice to be able to load the rear and not have the tunes muffled. I also run 2 12" orions in a box in the rear. Anyway, hope the site helps.

I think I would put the new speakers up front so the better sound is near me. As far as adding your Sonys in thats up to you and depends on if they are blown or not. If you wanted to you could put them in the back just to fill in air space.

As I said I do like my Alpines.

When I first bought my Alpines I did put them in the back as I had a set of decent Pioneers (I will never waste my money on Pioneers again) in the front. I adjusted the fader so more sound came from the Alpines (which sounded way better than the Pioneers) and set the Pioneers so they just barely filled in the front sound in the background. Volume wise the Pioneers were just barely heard. You could do this with your Sonys up front if their not blown.

Food for thought.

Good luck,
Ken

i have Rockford Fosgates in front/rear, 10" dual coil subwoofer with a box, and a JBL mono amp for the sub, it sounds really good(as for what i need). The rest tones are a courtesy of my 32" Super Swampers.

IMHO MB Quart is the ONLY way to go. Fosgate Punch Amp.
huh?
I didnt realize I needed an amp for the MA Audio speakers, I'll pick them up in the summer when cash is more avalable.
Should I go Alpine, Polk, what about non component MA audio speakers...

Just from my own humble non-audiophile perspective I've found (thru trial and error) speakers rated at 200 watts sound best when adding a minimum of 50 'real' watts to each one. Of course they will still work with less you just dont get the "umph" without distortion that they are capable of.

Right direction... It's generally accepted that you should power the speaker with at least the top 25% of its max rated rms power. Example: Say the speaker is rated at 100 watts rms- you should feed the speaker at least 75 watts rms for best results.

does anyone have a spare sound bar, I bored the holes bigger to mount crappy speakers that ended up falling down.. (I glued them in there:confused1)
I just bought new stylish LED speakers to go in there and realized, duuhhhh these are too small now that i made the mount larger.:jester:

I dont think sound bars are to cheap! If it were me id find something to make a spacer out of. Attach the spacer to the hole and the speakers to the spacer. Or cover the hole with something and cut a smaller hole in it. You cant trade your new speakers in for bigger ones?

Good luck,
Ken
