Is that actually a different manufacturer or maybe it's sold as a different brand? It is hard to tell I think?
I've used a spartan locker in the front Dana 30, works ok, loud clicking but no breakage and I have the spin-free hub setup. I did twist the driver side axle shaft but I don't think that was the fault of the locker, just too many rocks, big tires and too much power in 4lo with 5.13 gears.
In the rear 8.25 I have an OX locker with the electric actuator for the disconnect. They cost more, but it's so much less annoying driving daily on the street. I had a friend with a Detroit locker in the 8.25 and it was almost as bad as my old welded differential. He would have tires chirping on almost every slow speed turn. He eventually broke an axle shaft, and I imagine that the constant stress on the road might not have helped.
I'm not sure where you live, but some places I've seen the police come after people for chirping tires. Just a small factor to consider maybe.
Is money a factor? I got my OX locker for $1,000, but then also you need some tools and a press to set the gears up again and it takes a while and patience.
I'm not a big fan of auto lockers in the rear because of the constant locking and unlocking
issues, but it would be great to hear someone else's opinion.
