Sound System Setup

Hey slammed_am that custom enclosure for your sub is pretty nice, did you have that made? If so how much did it cost? Or did you make it yourself? If so how did you go about it and once again how much did it cost? Because if it is low cost and easy, then I would highly consider it for my XJ. Thanks for the pics and the ideas, I would appreciate your time if you got back to me with that info.

all together ruffly $40 on material, alot of it was left over from other projects I did. and most of the cost was due to the MOPAR paint, and texture spray I used.

If It was for a customer $35 per hour with about 16 hours of work on it. Fiberglass work is definaely expensive, ask around at some of the audio shops in your area...if you can do ityourself, you'll save a ton.

I feel for ya

Im runnin 5 1/4 infinity kappas all the way around with 4 tweeter, kenwood 7" dvd/cd/mp3 head unit, 2 15" kove audio armagedon subs all powered by 2 jbl 500/1 amps, 1.5 farad capacitor and a 450w fosgate punch amp.

I heard they have a speaker, that will screw right into your upright spare wheel. Has anyone else heard of it?

For those with speaks in the back doors, does it interfere with lifting the back seat open ?? And, how much depth did you have- looks like the window is right there.

I'm currently putting a stereo in my 96. Blaupunkt Houston head, already put Kenwood coaxes in sound bar (drop-in install, no drilling), fabbing pods for Pyle 6.5 components for front doors, fabbing 10" sub in right rear wheel well, Punch 75x4 and Crunch (don't flame me- it was free !!) 50x2 amps.

Should be adequate for this old fart :P !!

Installing anything for bass in the rear besides the subs is going to cause cancellation. Just go with 5.25"s or 6.5"s in the rear (if they'll fit - they fit on 97+).

You will need self-tapping screws.

If you're running more than about 25 watts RMS to the 6.5"s, make sure you run 16- or 14-guage speaker wire to them. You will be happy about this later, though it can be a pain in the ass, and requires a lot of wire. Run the wires on the opposite side of the Jeep from the power supply wires.

A great place to mount an amp for the 6.5"s is under the front passenger seat, but it has to be an extremely low-profile amp to not interfere with the seat controls. There may not be anywhere near enough clearance for any amp if equipped with a power seat. Look under the rear seat too, there's some space under there, but overheating, especially during the summer, might be an issue.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: I can't remember for the life of me how the hell I ran speaker wires for the rears from an amp mounted under my front passenger seat, but I did, without exposing them.

I want to see pics of this one. I am working on a 96. I did not use an adapter for my Kenwood CD player in my 89 (long story, never did finish installing it). Do I need one for my 96?

Thanks

For bass I have a Audiobahn 1251T DVC sub in a custom fiberglass enclosure/pannel I designed to replace the "pocket" in the passenger side rear of the cargo area. Color matched and textured it to the interior pannels.
That's cool that you put your sub in that pocket. I kept my sub in a box and put my amp and cap and distribution blocks in that spot then plexiglassed around it and put in an led computer fan that sucks in cool air and vents through the rear setbelt hole. It's a great setup and i get lots of compliments, plus when the car is off no one really knows I have an amp and sub cause the sub box is bottom firing and looks just like my toolbox.

BTW just changed out the sub to an Alpine Type S DVC 12. We jsut got them in a few weeks ago and aren't expectedto be around much longer so thought I'd take advantage while I have the chance. Big difference. All I have to say.

I take pics of everything, I'll share as I go. Been too busy to get very far, might even be after the 1st. I've got the sub panel cut, I made a smaller piece that conforms to the body to limit my enclosure size, and because it would be a nightmare to try to seal around the seatbelt and crap.

And just found that my taillights leak water into the space, so gotta address that now...

I still want to hear from those with speakers in the back doors- does it interfere with the back seat folding ?? Got pics :D ???
