We are considering selling my wife's 2011 Jeep Patriot.

I hate it. Stupid little 4 cylinder. 2wd. boring. blah.

Anyway, she wants something bigger and 4wd. Probably NOT a Jeep.

So, if you had $7,000 (ish) for a car, what would you get?

She likes the Tahoe, theres a few in that range. Or maybe a older 4runner.

Thoughts?

My first choice would be a Toyota Sequoia. My second would be a Ford Expedition. Medium size SUV would be a 4Runner.

I wanted a Sequoia but clean lower mileage units were out of my budget and it's going to be tough to find a 4Runner in that price range under 180k miles. I ended up buying a 2000 Ford Expedition with the 5.4l and it's been a good vehicle. Gas mileage sucks but it's a heavy SUV. If you do decide to go with an Expedition, one of the mandatory items you must inspect is that the air will change from cold to hot and back to cold. If it doesn't, the blend door or the blend door motor is bad and to fix it, you have to remove the center console and dash. It's about $1,500 for a mechanic to fix or a long weekend DIY project. I replaced mine through the help of youtube and figured since I was in there, might as well replace the heater core too. Also, that year range has the removeable rear seat which is kind of a PIA, newer models the rear seat folds flat but some have the 3 valve 5.4 engine which can have issues if the PO did not change the oil on a regular basis.

Good luck.
