Im new to the whole jeep thing and so far im lovin it meet alot of kool people in my area (northern indiana)have a questiopn about Attica and Haspin acres.
My XJ has a 3 inch lift 31trxus m/ts and front and rear tow points no skid plates yet or rock rails been told i can still go to these places and wheel on some of the easier trails with no problem othwers have told me not to even go to Attica unless its all skidded out, nasty place so is it possible to go and wheel a bit on some of the easier trails with skids planning on them just havent financially been able to it all at once. thanks this my dd by the way

At Badlands (Attica), even the Green trail has some rocks that can do some damage to your transfer case if you are not careful. You will need some rocker panel protection because of some sharp break overs at the tops of some of the climbs. You can run without any armor, but you should expect at least rocker damage. JMO ...

Have no idea about Haspin Acres ... not been there.

I ran green twice and played in the quary quite a bit at Winterfest with no issues. I do have a t-case skid and gas tank skid, and did utilize them both. I have yet to install rock-rails, but they're in the works. I'm still pretty green as far as seat time on the trail, so mabye my skids might not have been needed. Just my $.02 HTH

I haven't been to Haspen acres either, but been to Attica "a few times".

For 3" of lift, you don't have enough breakover for some of the hills on Green and will likely dent the rockers. Rock rails would be a good idea. Gas tank skid is a good idea. I don't run a transfer case skid- never have- suspect it'll kick my butt some day though ;)

Thanks guys for the info im trying to decide what to get first as money permits also may try to get to Redbird SRA soon been told its a lot of mud not many rocks thanks again any info is always helpful

redbird is a fun place to go, and yes there is a lot of mud. lbexj and i went there last september. it is some what a small park now at around 250 acres, but they are supposed to be adding approximately 400 more acres i think. trails are tight, lots of climbs and mud holes, and not a whole lot of rocks.

well - i was at attica and didnt hit my rockers much at all... scuffed the paint...
if you know how to drive you wont "need" skids... take an expierenced spotter with you and ask him to spot you when you feel uncomfortable - and you'll be fine...
I never once touched my enginetranny skid or my t-case skid...

just remember -
chicks dig body damage...

here is my write up of winterfest - all my sheetmetal damage was avoidalbe - expecialy the rear 1/4 pannels, i was just impatient...

I ran Haspin a couple of month ago. During snow fall. I had a good time, except for the Xterra that was strapped to my rear bumper most of the trip. Tested some mods, identified a need for other mods. I was running a '98 XJ on 31s, no skid plates, open front and rear. Only damage I had was a rear fender flare, and a colapsed lower control arm bracket at the axle from hitting a hole too hard. Was able to wheel the rest of the day and drive home to Columbus. Little mud, lots of hills, a few rocks. I would go back.
Have you checked their web site?

You can run the Badlands without the protection, but I wouldn't [again].

If I were you, I'd install rock rails first, then a t-case skid, then gas tank and some LCA skids.

ROCK RAILS, ROCK RAILS, ROCK RAILS, ROCK RAILS!!!
If I knew then what I know now... this would have been the very FIRST mod.
Seriously.

I went without a t-case skid for a couple years and beat on my XJ. Nothing bad ever happened, but it was always a concern, and for what a skid costs, it's way cheaper than fixing my tcase.

I have a gas tank skid, but haven't installed it yet, I'm waiting for the wrenchin fairies to come do it for me.

My LCA mounts were/are TRASHED, after I replaced the driver's side mount, I picked up a set of LCA mount skids for about $15 and had them welded on. Now I just have to get around to doing the same thing to the pass. side.

You guys rock, thanks for the info sounds like rockrails first then armor plate the under side. I'll take it easy this summer and stick to Silver Lake MI (Dunes) and some of the farms i deer hunt on (mud),till i get it done .Thanks again.

Funny how we have someone here asking a question about somewhere to wheel and gets helpful advice.

This is a good example of how to ask a question and get results on this forum.

I was thinking the same thing. Makes us look rather bipolar if you didn't know any better.

Hmmm... Let's network...

How about some part numbers?

I need to price and part no. for a 1330 flange adapter for a 8.8 axle...
or better yet... a 1330 yoke for an 8.8

Is there any way you can find out if the backing plates on a F-150 8.8 have the same bolt pattern as the backing plates on a 95 and up Explorer?

How far are ya from Dyer, IN?

Appreciate any info you can get..

Thanks

Gil
