Lincoln went out this morning and then came home about 1/2 he later bleeding everywhere and I spent most of the day at the vet. He now has 100 plus shot in his leg and they can't take em out cause it would do too much damage! So there it'll stay.
Doc, said he'll make a full recovery, but he's in a lot of pain and it set me back almost $600 that I don't have! Ugh not a good day, and too too it all off I was up all night last night smoking brisket and ribs and turkey that I didn't even fricken get to eat!
Life can be a Beoch

Goddammit JD that's awful. He's a gorgeous Dane. Glad the a-hole wasn't a better shot.....and that Lincoln will recover. I know how hard ya get hit at the vet with big dogs...... My adopted 100 lb GSD's previous owners had his teeth mechanically filed down, now they're starting to decay. He lost 4 a few weeks ago .....$1200.

If you'll allow me to do it, I'd be happy to send you some funds to help take away some if the sting..... Just PM me your addy brutha. Seriously.

Also, if you're still doing cage work, I have a race MJ that needs one that conforms to SCCA reqs.... Nice winter job with a loose timeframe for completion......

That is horrrible. Any idea who did it? Did you call the cops? Not sure where you live, if you are in a populated area, call a local TV news station. If they do a story, people will know about it and somebody may talk and the a**hole might get caught. people tend to get more upset over animal abuse than people abuse.

No idea who, but we live in the country and have ranches all around us, my guess is he was chasing a calf or sheep or something, were probley lucky they didn't shoot to kill. Troy I appreciate it but we're ok on the money fromt, borrowed some from my brother to cover the check o wrote to the vet. But heck yeah I'm happy to build you a cage lmk when your ready, I'm pretty booked till after Christmas

As a rancher who lost cattle/calves to packs of domestic 'pets'. Dogs running loose on ranch property were no different than coyotes or wolves and were dealt with the same. In Colorado, it is within the law to protect your livestock and you as the owner can be held liable for any damage done.

I am really sorry it happened to your dog, but if you want him to stay safe, you might want to keep him on your own property. You got lucky this time but might not be so in the future. If you really want to get in trouble, let him take down a deer and deal with them.

Yea, I know the laws and also understand as I have livestock as well! He is normally I. The fence but jumped it and got out. Still gotta find a way to keep him in. But he doesn't chase animals he plays with out goats and horses,

I'm going to preface with the fact that I am a dog owner.

I have owned many over the years.

The only time any of my Dogs has been injured is when they got off the reservation. Off reservation with no supervision and they are open season for just about any pinhead with a car or a gun.

Very sorry to hear that somebody birdshot your dog. Could have been worse.
Years back I found my 1yr old lab after she had been hit by a car. She slipped her collar while I was in the garage. It didn't end as well.

On a deeply personal level, I hope you find the SOB. Your dog couldn't have been too far from home, you probably even heard the shot.

He's doing much better today, still pretty soar, but he's up and about he's been outside several times today, and even starting to put a little weight on the leg!
