Slave Cylinder is out?

So last weekend when I was in Crested Butte my clutch fell to the floor and did not return. A local helped me fill it back up and then bleed the line. Things were great until today when the same thing happened. A guy from work suggested that maybe the SLAVE had gone bad. When I was bleeding it this eveing a considerable amount of fluid came pouring of the bell housing of the transmission. My XJ is my daily driver and I'm totally f*cked with out it. Any body replaced this before? Any suggestions? Links? Threads? You guys always seem to come through. I'm glad I have you all.

Thanks.

Yep. Not a quick fix. Gonna have to drop the transmission out completely to replace that internal slave cylinder. Retarded design, but it is what it is.

Like Jon said, if you're gonna go as far as replacing the slave, just as well spend the extra $120 or so for a new clutch/pressure plate/pilot bearing and have the fly wheel turned so that everything in there is new.

Well to do it "right" you need to remove the flywheel and have it re-surfaced. Depends on how long the place you take it needs to get it done. You could be down for a day, maybe 2.

If you skip the flywheel re-surface (not recommended - might get chatter after all that work) then it's only as long as it takes to remove and replace the parts - half day to a day.

Getting the input shaft to line up and set back into the pilot bearing is the hardest part when doing it without a vehicle lift and trans jack. Expect lots of effort and cursing...... :D
