State Police Target Scott's Law Violators
Don't have a problem with the law, I'll even do what it recommends for postal workers. I do have a problem if officers are using it as a scam to make money, like some motorist have suspected.

Fire away!

That tazer incident sounds like that cop does not belong on the force. He shoukd be tazered off the job. The Pizza shop owner deserves his recompensation. Never heard of Scotts law but I always move over if at all possible anyway.
Dog was a lucky dog and should be called hardhead from now on!!!

Well, with the states not making any money on fuel taxes and tolls because people are not driving they have to make money somehow. Look for more states to start enforcing obscure laws and lesser known ones.
Ya know, every cop I have ever talked to says 'there are no quotas', I find that kind of funny as in every state budget there is a number, a dollar number, of expected traffic and citation revenue, as long as that dollar amount is in the budget it is in my book a 'goal' for revenue and it's pretty closely monitored. When they have these crackdowns it's always around one of the financial quarters. When they are ahead of the game there are no crackdowns, but when they get behind the crackdowns and safety check points go up which just happen to result in increase citations to keep the state, county and towns in the financial loop.

Story #1: This guy was trying to be cute and &^%ed up. Too bad for him.
Although I think 2 million is a little excessive.....

Story #2: Yes, I own a dog, but I can tell you if it's me or Fido, I'm going to walk away unharmed.

Story #3: Always a good idea to move over, but with everyone's budget crunch, it makes you think $$$$$ is on someone's mind. You can't call them quotas, that would be illegal, so Chicago uses the term "index"; draw your own conclusions.

RichP:
Don't forget that certain things are funded by the state. Local LE does seat belt checks (called 'click it or ticket' in Illinois) because the State has $$$$$ set aside for individual municipalities that participate in the program. Officers love these because they get paid at time and 1/2. Municipalities love them because they get State $$$$$ to administer the program and share in the $$$$$ from each ticket written.

#1. Im not allowed to say anything bad about cops;) so here it goes. We are only seeing one side of the story. I bet the guy went in the cooler to get a salad and came out with an Uzi. Yep, thats what had to have happened because cops dont do dumb things and if they do, its ok because they are cops.

#2 The dog was too slow.

#3 This law exists in many states now. I've always considered it common sense or at least common courtesy. I teach my driving students this but some of them just dont get it.
The problem with enforcing this law is that it says you can either get over or slow down, it doesnt specify how far you need to slow down.
I think moving over is a good thing but Im not sure it should be a law. Ive seen bad consequences stemming from this law. What Ive noticed is that LEOs and workers and even stranded motorists have gotten way to complacent while being on the shoulder. Nearly every day I see cops opening their doors into the traffic lane and putting themselves between traffic and their vehicles and construction workers wedging themselves between barriers and traffic. Its like they are daring you to hit them.
PS: on a side note. If you are driving in the left lane, passing a truck and theres a cop on the shoulder ahead, dont slow down right beside the truck like you are trying to hide from the cop or something. All you are doing by slowing down right there is keeping that truck from getting over like he is legally obligated to do.
