Short Front winch Bumper Designs

So I've seen a couple of these. Essentially just a winch holder with tow points.

Thoughts?

I don't like them personally, reminds me too much of the wrangler stubby bumpers. plus, it leaves the bottom of the header panel completely unprotected.

I break enough header panels with my big dumb 2x6 full length winch bumper protecting them, I don't need to make it worse by leaving the wings unprotected.

If I was going to run one I'd probably build it with some 1/4" thick brackets all the way back to the rearmost mounting hole, doubled up with 1/2 or 3/4 plate for the recovery points, with 2x6 or 3x7 box tubing across between the two brackets. Wish they made 2x7 or 2x6.5, it would be incredibly easy to fit a winch into that from the back.

I like the stubby front bumper i have on my jeep. So far i haven't had any problems with it and it didn't really cost me a lot to build it. I thought about adding some wings onto it to protect the header panel a bit but like the looks of it so think i am going to leave it alone for now. Here is what mine looks like.

The action fab bumper is a good concept, but it needs something to protect the front fenders and turn signals.

I saw that one, and the thing which struck me is that the grill is unprotected as it sticks out. You can't rest your Jeep on a tree to prevent sliding forward. He offers "wings", but they appear to suffer the same design problem.

Jeepguy, your design looks good, but I think with some thinking, you can add some protection for the corners that won't give up anything in clearance.

Ken, how are you breaking the radiator support?

I break the header panel (the fiberglass nose piece) not the radiator support - generally trees, rocks, etc. With no metal under/slightly in front of it, I'm sure I'd smash even more of them than I do now.

I've never broke one of those. All the rest of the panels, but not that one!
