It is getting harder and harder to shift into park? Anyone have an idea what would cause this and how to possibly fix?

Um it's your muffler bearings going out. It makes the whole thing stick and hard to shift

Possibly if any one knew what you were working on....they made xj's for 17ish years....maybe more detail? Do u have to try and shove it past park? Is it just tricky shifting into all gears or just park?

Ok, my bad flores, I just had a flashback of all the other "great" advice posts you have blessed us with, it is an 89. It comes out of park easily but when I go to put it back in park it can be extremely difficult. And it happens on any surface.

Does it have the updated shift interlock solenoid? It's a recall and there is a tsb on it. I'll flash a pic of what it should look like outa mine in the morning.....
U can disco the linkage at the trans and see if it's still hard to get into park....pretty good chance it's that solenoid if it still does it
Btw u have a pretty shitty opinion of my advice for only having been here a few months....you've obviously been here long enough to know that we need info if u need help though....

Disconnect the linkage and try to shift it manually at the transmission. That will help narrow down the cause.

Yeah, not to pick on you but posts like this are why I quit throwing out help in the OEM Tech forum. "It" could be a whole bunch of concerns depending on what year- and too many people won't engage the brain before fingers hit the keyboard. So good luck with that.

yeah I forgot to put the important details. It was a spur of the moment post and I didn't think but I had stated in my second reply that it was an 89. I understand it could probably get frustrating after a while.
In case anyone else comes across this post with a similar problem, my '94 with AW-4 auto trans was doing the same thing, I could find all gears but not park. Additional symptom was lots of slop in the shifter when shifting into gear positions. If I held the shifter all the way forward, PARK would engage, but when I let go it would slip into REVERSE. The problem was the cable bracket on the transmission was loose, and let the cable act like it was out of adjustment. I used some thread sealant and 1/2" socket to tighten the bracket, now it goes into PARK and there is no slop in the shifter.
