Hay guys, anyone interested in a weekend or more camping & wheeling around there in June, maybe the end or early July. We could center out of Shaver Lake, campground, townX& motel area then wheel any number of the 9 runs,Xof which 6 are rated difficult, all within 15 miles. Snow should be gone before Tahoe opens. I might go down for a stint with 2 weekends.

I would love to go run Dusy or some of the other trails down there. I'd vote for sometime in June or early July.

im in.

i can pretty much only do friday thru sunday though.

Finally a run in my neck of the woods...

I'd be in as long as work schedule permits

Dusy. Last time there we broke several jeeps. Off the top of my head...

1. Electrical problems with fuel pump.
2. An arm weld broke
3. Rear door busted (not sure)
4. Tie rod broke
5. Steering became really lose
6. Broke u-joint in the front axle shaft.
7. Got stuck on a stump, badly bent crossmember and burned a winch trying to pull over.

Ended up camping at the reservoir, playing bocce balls on the granite slaps. Broke quite a few balls too. Overall, it was a very nice trip.

That was a fun trip :greensmok

Dusy is a fun trail and will put some abuse on a rig, be sure everything is tight before you go and check bolts regularly. I may or may not come up for this for a couple of day runs with you all...depends on work and baby.

The dusy ershim trail didn't open until August 19th last year. I wouldn't plan a June trip. The last 2 years it wasn't open for July 4th. I'm planning a labor day trip, to make sure I don't miss it again.

Im assuming it was closed because of the snow?

Seeing how this year has been significantly less, I'd assume it will be open sooner. People are estimating that the Rubicon could be open as soon as the end of May this year, rather than the late season this past year. (different areas, I know)

I'd agree with you on any other year...I bet it will open by late June this year though, unless this next storm puts some serious snow up there.

Not to play devils advocate, by it snowed down to 4000 feet memorial day weekend last year. The dusy is often 1 of the last trails to open. Just because winter hasn't happened yet, 3 months is a long way off.

Yeah but we are half way through March...This is one of the driest years in recent history...I'm leaning towards a long wheeling year, hampered by several forest fires. By no means reality, just basing it on what I see today...Yes Dusy is always the last to open because it is the highest elevation. The trails up there open based on elevation and rate of snow melt...

You could be right and I would most certainly prefer if 20' of snow dropped in the next 3 months.

actually according to the hydrologist at SMUD before i left , this was the lowest snowpack since 1976, which was a really bad brought year. but only time will tell. we can always plan a dusy trip with a backup run in mind as a just in case sorta thing?

If you know any of those 9 trails in that small area you might volinteer to help plan some other runs for us while we're there.

I am familiar with bald mountain, swamp lake, coyote lake, and red lake. I am in to plan whatever.... Let me know.

With those that have done the trails before & I've got a big topo GPS & books we could do any of the trails depending on what's open. Should be a great time to wheel w/ the water some snow and flowers.
