Sharkeisha Has Landed

So my uncle picked up a Cherokee at auction last week, and it just showed up today. The money has yet to change hands, but if everything goes well, I'll be buying it from him. She's a 97 XJ Country with 105k. Aside from the front end damage (needs new front bumper cover and ends, as well as a headlight bezel and blinker) she's clean as a whistle. The only rust is in the damaged areas (water got under the paint) but there is ZERO rot or rust aside from the damaged area. Not under the floor, not in the door jambs, not on the frame.

It looks like someone put a fork lift on the hood, but those panels can be straightened and painted.

I think I may plasti-dip the rockers, flares, and grille.

nice. Check the rockers well for rust. I've seen that color rust worse than any other.

Clean! What do you mean, how can a certain color rust more?

Different paint, slightly different chemical composition and bonds to the sub structure differently. Maybe wears out more over the course of 10 years or something. I'm not sure of the chemistry, but I've seen it in more than one gun-metal blue XJ.

Hmmm, good to know. I've looked at several XJ's so far, and this was the cleanest body yet!

hahah I have one and I can assure you my jeeps of other colors are rustier......I would be more worried about the guy with the crooked feet.....

Found a donor car today. Grabbed some new sheet metal for the passenger's front, a new hood, a black passenger's headlight bezel and grille (have to repaint the one on my Jeep to match) and some fuses and such. But the best part is, I found a key fob that I can (hopefully) reprogram as well as some mudflaps! All for around $100!

do the speed rated ones have holes drilled in them for lightness?

with ford/chevy axles, aftermarket tcase, custom suspension and full hydro. it makes it hard to find jeep part out stuff to use with my junk.

Haha, why didn't you just use Dana's if you needed heavier axles? From what I understand, they're a direct bolt on...

I'm thinking of painting the wheels flat black, but leaving the centers and the lips silver. Thoughts on how that will look / procedure and materials? The plan was to sand them up, mask with tan masking tape, and then hit it with several light coats of Rustoleum flat black.

*By the way, this will be the build thread for my XJ, but first I have to start building it...*

The Ford frontend he used is a dana - it's a dana 60, XJs come stock with dana 30s.

The chevy rearend is a 14 bolt and somewhat stronger than a rear dana 60, but also dirt cheap and easy to set up gears in.
