Seen this diff guard?

How about this one?

I welded a 1/4 flat bar to the front of the cover. now before you all freak out and whine about warping etc. The cover is 1/8" thick and held the welds fine. I got pretty good penetration to so I am not too worried.

I don't think so folks. That thing looks like it only offers minimal protection to me. The round stock looks like hot roll steel- not my first choice in materials. With all the pieces already bent, you are asking for it to go ahead and bend farther with a good impact. IMHO, the rock rings from avalanche, the covers from wagoneer machine, and the homebrew strap welded to the cover blow that thing outta the water. It does "look" cool, but I prefer for things to work also. I'm sending this one to the mall crawler pile personally.

Zion, I agree with Chuck. Go ahead and make a good one for yourself and then make a couple just like it for us:)

O.K. so how are you all welding on the diff. covers ? on the diff. or
off ? can it be bolted to a "plate" or even a thick piece of wood to keep it from warping? Any ideas? Some type of a jig....
Thanks guys....

The cover is 1/8" thick which is quite thicker than stock. I welded it on a bench before I even bolted it up to my diff. Keep the welds short and cool and it won't warp the cover. Besides, if you do get a bit of warpage you got silicone. It's not like it is a head or something.
