Have any of you tried this? I did a search and didn't come up with anything. This is the best "looking" CAI I've seen but I have no idea what actual performance numbers are.

It is cheap too! At around $213 you get a completely sealed off intake!

I only bought the S&B 7" Powerstack cone filter and fabbed my own cold air intake with very good results:

Beware of any "cold air intake" that uses a metal tube 'cause it acts as a heat sink and raises intake air temps. A PVC or similar airtube is much better; you don't want one that conducts heat.

OK cool, how is an S&B filter different than say K&N?
It looks like this box is all plastic and it has a full intake all the way to the TB. I'm thinking about taking the plunge just because it looks so cool. Do you think there will be any performance or gas mileage benifit to this on an otherwise stock XJ?

Oh and one more thing. On my 88 and 91 I had the same airbox, and each had a little tube in the front of the box that went into the bumper. On my 99 there is just a hole in the front of the air box and I can actually see the filter from outside the box...why the change? Did this correspond to the 99 intake mani?

The S&B filter has a smaller inner cone in addition to the outer cone so it has more filter area for the same size of filter than the K&N and therefore flows more cfm of air.
A free-flow intake should give you a small performance gain, better throttle response, and a slight improvement in cruise gas mileage. Overall gas mileage will still depend on the size of the brick that's attached to your right foot.

to add to this, k&n is sloppy when it comes to molding the filter...if you look at a k&n filter, you will see black urethane leak into the actual filter which restricts air flow...s&b takes the extra time to reduce that and makes a perfect mold...so not only is it cheaper, but flows better.

they are in the process of putting all of there cfm ratings on there website, its called truth about filters or something like that.

why do i know this? i sell the crap out of S&B at my work and the main vender rep was at my work in the beginning of the year.

Ya they really look like cool stuff.
Any chance you've got enough clout to get a good deal for a fellow NAXJA member? :)
