I have a Coleman folding tent trailer whose battery has gone south. Electric usage is light, two interior 12v lights, one exterior 12v lights. I would like to set up an inverter to run a laptop, recharge batteries, etc. Use intervals can be from once a month to once every 6 months.

Whats the proper way to keep the battery charged?

When ever you park it, disconnect the negative ground on the battery. The LP monitor more than likely will drain the batt if left unattended. Chances are your batt charger in the camper is more like a trickle charger and will take three days to get a full charge. I have a 30' trailer that I let charge for one full day before I go camping. Over extended period of times I hook up my generator and let it run for a day because I park it in a storage lot. If you keep it at your house leave it plugged in all the time.
