Rusty's Skid plates

Personally, I'd pass on anything Rusty's.

That engine skid is more of a pain in the ass than anything. Never heard anyone post up singing the praises for this skid. For that matter, there haven't been many posts about having damaged that area on our XJ's from wheeling for the most part. I think your money is best spent elsewhere on other armor.....

Again, just my opinion.

I have no problem with Rusty at all, but I would definitely pass on the engine tranny skid. $$ best spent elsewhere.

If you don't have the t-case skid, then that's a must have. Rusty's skid is ok. But beware of shipping issues, and taking a long time to get the item. It happens often enough to piss people off, but not the issue the majority of the time. Rusty's is very touch and go where customer service is concerned.

Take a look at Tomken Machine. They're a Colorado based, NAXJA sponsor with quality armor pieces. Call them and see if they'll give you the NAXJA discount - although, they might ask for your member number - which you won't have. They're in Buena Vista, so you could probably save on shipping if you went up there.

Shipping issues billing issues the fact the guy uses 3/16 plate that isn't 3/16 I'd pass on anything rusty makes.

Tcase skid gas tank skid and rockers are the 3 big skid protection items I would shoot for.

I agree do you not hear many post about this skid or having damage in that area due to not having. I have seen on 2 different occasions oil pans taken out 1 on an YJ on on a ZJ. ZJ oil pan sits just like the XJ. The tow bill fair surpassed the cost of the skid.

Well I guess I'll be one that says something else. I have had Rustys T-case skid plate for a while now. The thing has probably saved my t-case numerous times (severe gouges on the bottom). But then again I've only really needed it in places that most won't ever take their rigs. That being said, if I were to do ti all over again I would pass on it, and get something else. It has worked great, but is a PITA to take on and off. Thats my $.02...

Heard lots of bad info about Rusty's as a company. I passed on their skids and went with Tomken. Props to supporting a CO business too. I never realized they were based in CO.

I have a Tomken Gas tank skid.. its good and i would get a T case as mentioned above... the rest is optional [underneath that is]

have to have rocker gaurds.... just to be clear.. and i hear waayyy to much negative stuff to go rusties.. Plus Tomken is "local" so buy Colorado [and USA for that matter] when you can...

I bought a rustys hd crossmember and it is a decent piece, but the holes were drilled off enough that it moved my engine pulleys into the e-fan so i had to redrill which was a pain.

See thats what cracks me up. Bolt on is bolt on when you have to break out a drill and torch and welder and all kinds of tools then Rustys easy to install bolt up only stuff isn't worth it. Then when you call him about it to ask a simple question and he makes you sound like a tard for his lack of ability to make something right the first time. Well no love for rusty or his products from this wheeler.

I would be willing to bet you had the cross member in 180* off. Alot of people don't realize that it is slightly to one side. I did the same thing once and couldn't shift the transfer case as all my linkages were bound up. I talked to many people (XJers) while at the first Fall Fling in Moab, and finally MJR (Jeep Tech) took one look and said "crossmember is in backwards dummy". I didn't feel so bad because everyone was standing around scratching their heads.
