running 37s on a DD?

As far as the height goes, no, but the tires will still be too wide.
Edit: to clarify, those in that picture are only 33 inch tires.

I take back what I said about not needing to cut on it.
When you put 37"s on that, the COG will be so high that you're definitely gonna need to cut after it rolls on a side hill.:D

I guess thats why people dont run 37's or larger, cause it will make the COG too high, too.. ;-)

What do you mean ill be driving a Subaru? Im still going to be active. im sure ill come up with some more questions..

do you guys think that by lifting 5.5" and running 37s that my COG will be to high?
 
I would not do the 8.8 over a cherokee 44. If your already doing a rear axle, go 60. It wont cost you that much more.
 
as of right now i figuring a D60 rear and a 9" front.. now if i buy them from currie will they come with all the monting brackets and spring perches and stuff?

I'm just going to be devil's advocate here...
No offense to you, as we were all n00bs once, but you are asking a great deal of questions that modest experience would have answered for you already. I'm not being critical here, but again, why do you want to run 37's? I don't think there is anyone on this board who jumped from new XJ to XJ on 37's. Those that got there, did so out of necessity and slow buildups. I know you said you are going to do it slow, etc, etc, but what you are talking about running will really end up costing large in the end here, and judging by some of your questions, I am concerned that you are building up something that will overwhelm your skill, knowledge and expertise. If you have a whopping bank account and don't mind having others do the work, then by all means have at it, but remember that when you get work done, the majority of the cost is labour. You can save huge by doing it slowly, learning to drive your rig in progressively more advanced terrain and work it into exactly what you need, all the while learning to do it yourself. You have some major fabrication ahead of you, not to mention advanced design. A locked and armored XJ on 31's and 3" of lift will go many many places, lots of people on here have proven that over and again. Just a thought...

most of the work i can have done by friends who said that they will help me do it.. i have friends with welders, air tools pretty much anything that i will need...

as for going right to 37s i would rather go right to 37s rather than go through 3 lifts and different sized tires. which in the end will end up costing me more...

as of right now though i am thinking about sticking to 35s and a 5 inch lift. but i am still going to get the new axles front and rear just to be safe and that way ill know that if in the future i want to upgrade my tires my axles will be able to handle them.

I admit spending a lot on MANY different tires, lift parts, etc..... but I wouldn't have had as much fun or gained as much knowledge if I hadn't.

Baby steps is the way to go.
 
you can resell a lot of the parts, and i consider the progression and experience to definitely be worth the small extra cost. I went from wheeling a Nissan Stanza ( :laugh3: ) to a stock XJ, to 3" lift 28" tires, then 31s, then MJ with 5" and 33s, then MJ with 7", 35s, lockers and gears. It has been a great learning experience and I wouldn't trade it.

I ran 10" on 35's and had to cut. And I still put the tires into the fenders. I know, crazy right???

But that was back in the 'younger' days. ;) Down to 9" and 39.5's now.
 
what size lift and tires should i run then? i know i dont want 31s i would like to go bigger than that.. that i know...

should i go like 4" and some 33s.. that way i could still wheel with stock axles while i save for my new axles and other stuff need to build my rig?

Thats really not something anyone can tell you! I wheeled mine completly stock for over 2 years before i did anything!! Once I knew exactly what i wanted I went straight to 6in and 35s, but that was after 2 years of wheeling and research!!

Every single person here will tell you something diffrent as to what you want because everyone is diffrent, where people wheel is diffrent, its all what fits your needs best! I would say wheel it, get o tknow your XJ and know your wheeling needs!

Wheel it stock, or go small at first so you can keep your stock axles and see what works for you! Although if you want to jump to custom 9in front and 60rear it will make for some nice used parts for sale down the road once you relize the you have more Jeep then you can handle!! I call dibs on the 9in!!
 
i am thinking right now that i am going to run the DPG/RE hybrid 4" kit and run some 33x1250x15 baja claws.. then after i get it set up i will be able to put money aside to either at some point lift my jeep more and run bigger tires or buy a second jeep and go all out on that one and still have my current jeep as a DD
 
Ok, this is my situation. I am currently at three inches of lift and 31" tires and have been wheeling that setup for almost two years and am very impressed with my jeep on what it can do with this setup. IN the next year or so I will be going to the 4.5in. T.N.T long arm kit with 1.75 spacer and BOR 4.5in. leafs with 1.5in. shackles in the rear and also all the extra needed parts like brake lines and so on after my 8.8 swap. I will be running 33X13.5 LTB's with an Auburn electric locker and limited in the front because the price is right. With this setup I feel that I will flex very well and will be a good driver on the road for the wife. I don't think that I will need to go bigger than this because I can already follow some of the other bigger rigs who are locked because I feel that my driving skills have gotten alot better with the jeep over the past two years. Get to know your jeep on the trails and decide what to do from there. You don't have to o big to do alot on the trails. It also looks nice to. Good luck with your decision.

That's kinda where I ended up for my DD after starting off thinking I wanted 35s and BW flares.

I ended up with the DPG 5" Hybrid and 265/75R16 (32x10.5) tires. No bling-ing BWs.

I figured for a DD that is driven 60+ miles a day the DBs were worth the extra cost. I like my fillings where they are supposed to be.

If I can't go where I want with this config and still drive it to work on Monday I probably need to give my head a shake.
