run in with local authorities today

Here's a quick way to get around the bumper law if you have hitches.

Make a front "beam" that's welded onto a hitch insert & dropped to a legal height. That way you're legal when you're driving around town, but you can take it right out/off to go wheeling.

A lot of states register XJs as "SW" (station wagon) & that qualifies them in the "car" category - much lower bumper height allowable than a truck.

I remember when I got my XJ late last year. The tires the kid had on it b4 were all messed up and anytime I would accelerate out of a turn it sounded like I was in aparking garage all loud n stuff. Needless to say I was leaving the store and happened a biker cop already had pulled someoen over but he did look my way and yell at me.

I've had plenty of run-ins with the law. by 19 i was up to $280/month for liability insurance. Speeding tickets mostly, 2 accidents. Then I wised up and pulled my head out of my ass. Stopped trying to impress people with my amazing (ass-hat) driving skills. There were a few tickets that got thrown out too cuz the cop couldnt get to court house on time, and one other cop wrote I was doing 54/65 instead of 74/65 (he was trying to be nice) and between him turning in the ticket and me going to court someone changed the ticket to read 74/65. So the cop asked it be dismissed since "evidence was tampered with".

Thats my run in with the law. I praise the police they do their jobs, sometimes the are asses about it trying to meet monthly qoutas, but sometimes you can't find one when you need em.

this is a little off topic but:

Has anyone actually got pulled over in IL for have not flares or there tires sticking out too much?

i dont have any flares and my tires stick out about 3-4" and i have never gotten pulled over or asked about them , the last time i got pulled over (no front plate) the cop was talking to me about how the new Nissan Frontiers are such a good offroad vechicle and i should look into buying one of them next...i agreed (trying not to laugh:laugh: ) to try to ease my way out of the ticket, which i did:patriot:

Sort of.

I got pulled over for "too much tire exposed" but it was from the height....not the width.

After a normal DL check, and a quick check to make sure I was not hauling any illegal plant products, or open containers....

The talk turned to Jeep stuff...

I was slightly exceeding the limit when he 1st saw me.

BTW - No tickets.
