On Saturday, December 4th, a workshop will be held in Placerville concerning the future of the Rubicon Trail. This will be a follow-up to the workshop held October 3rd. The results from the October 3rd workshop are available at the following website:

http://www.co.el-dorado.ca.us/Rubicon/MasterPlanReports.html

The details of the December 4th workshop have not been released but it will probably be held at the fairgrounds and during the afternoon.

If you are not able to make the meeting, your comments can be made through the website mentioned above.

I will keep this board posted as I get more information.

The meeting has been confirmed for 11am on December 4th at the Placerville Fairgrounds, in the Marshal Hall. It's the same place it was last time.

Let's get the word out to everyone. I don't want to hear anyone say they never heard about it.

Post it up on every board you know of, be redundant. Put up fliers at the local autoparts store, junkyard and gas station.

This is the best place to voice your opinion about what direction the management of the Rubicon takes. If you can't make the meeting, e-mail your opinion to El Dorado County.

Click on the Rubicon workshop highlight.

Open the info from the last workshop or just send in your comments.

This meeting is now less than a week away! I haven't heard much talk about people attending. I will be there. Sounds like Jes will be there. Who else will be there?

I'll be there, do we need flashing lights to make people read this post?!
This meeting is important, if you give a shit about the Rubicon show up to this meeting.

Well, I wasn't really surprised about any of the ideas and plans that were brought forward this weekend. There's some unfortunate scenarios that could be played out in the future but I hope it does not have to come to that.
Thanks to Phil, Mary, Andy, and Britt for coming out. Also, good to finally meet you Doug.

The document was several hundred pages, thus they didn't hand them out for us to read. Instead they gave us a CD with the plan on it. I'm having mine printed up and will post a very detailed outline by the end of the week.

in a nut shell...

There are phases to the plan. The first phase includes stepped up education and law enforcement. Merlin will not longer be the caretaker at the Springs, he will be living in a tent (someday a cabin) at Spider Lake. Different government entities will be moniotoring use and wear of the trail. Trail maintenance will be stepped up with the help of volunteers. The rocks in the Little Sluice will be removed to reflect the trail ten years ago.

The problems come in phase two. They say we might not need to ever go to phase two. This would include requiring everyone to get and carry with them a "Trail Agreement". Similar to a fire permit, it would list things you should and shouldn't do while driving the Rubicon. There was also talk of generating funds to maintain the trail. The users would end up funding the law enforcement, education and maintenance. A limit of 250 vehicles at a time on the entire trail would be put in place. (Remember they have put over 400 in Rubicon Spring for the Jeep Jamboree, but special permit operations would not be limited.)

There was plenty of opposition voiced on these items but they need to hear more. The plan should be posted on the El Dorado County website very soon. www.co.el-dorado.ca.us, follow it to the Rubicon page. There is a link to send comments throught e-mail. I will post a direct link with my detailed outline.

Thanks for reading this post. Please tell everyone you know to comment on the plan. I'm not going to tell you how to comment, just do it. have your voice heard!

Thanks Doug, Jes, Phil, and other for going to the workshop. I was busy picking up my axles in Redding on Saturday. Did they say anything about restricting green stickered vehicles? Someone told me that they are outlawed on the Con which I find hard to believe. So many people trailer their non-streetable rigs up there. I'm trying sell my CJ7 buggy and it needs to be trailered so that would effect it being sold. How many 4 wheeler people show up? Hundreds, thousands? Did they seem more into quads and dirt bikes? Did the Pirate of the Rubicon, Rock Zombies, and other clubs have a big presence their? Was this the workshop to decide on stuff or just a info shop where you get your CD and then review it to vote kind of thing?

The street legal only idea was mentioned only to say it was not considered. Green Sticker vehicles are now legal and will be legal in the future.

There were probably 100 people in attendance. Hard to say what group people were from.

The idea of this meeting was to give a brief outline of the proposed plan and to answer any questions. Since the only information given was the verbal outline, we all need to read the proposed plan from the El Dorado county website and e-mail our comments.

Remember, this is only the first draft of the proposed plan. We can change it to how we want it to be but we must read the draft and send in comments!

Thanks for the info Doug. I thought it was more of the you get so many votes and there are lots of issues etc etc. But I guess that was the step before this right? I'm glad to hear about the green stickered vehicles being still being allowed on the trail. Someone told with authority that they were now outlawed and I didn't believe him because I knew the workshops were in the future and non streetable rigs make up a pretty large % of vehicles on the Con.

A complete copy of the report is now available online.

Chapter 4 has the most important stuff. Trail Managment, Facilities, Maintenance, Carrying Capacity, Trail Use Agreements (PERMITS), Regulations, etc.

It is a long boring read. But we have to read it and send our comments in to the county. The January 22nd workshop to discuss these ideas will be extremely important. Mark it on your calendar now.

Permits, fees, vehicle limits, removing rocks from the Little Sluice, etc. Now is the time to speak up.

Please spread this information to other forums you visit.

The next workshop is less than two weeks away. I'd like to see a lot more chatter on this forum about what people are thinking.

Even if you plan on attending the next workshop on the 22nd, send in your thoughts before hand. With any luck, if everyone comments (before hand) on why dispersed camping should be allowed (among other topics), they might start the meeting with a statement that dispersed camping will be allowed. We can make a difference but we have to speak up to do it.

I went so far as to forward the report and my response to my friends who wheel but not yet on the Rubicon, to get them to send in responses. Have your parents respond. Have your kids respond. It would be a good lesson on local government. Have your kids take it to school and have every kid send in a response. Have them e-mail Arnold at the capitol about what is going on! Lets get more people involved. Think outside the box. Co-workers. E-mail everyone who ever sent you a chain e-mail and have them e-mail the county.

Rubicon Workshop: Saturday January 22nd, Placerville Fairgrounds, Marshal Building, 11am.

There is a Rubicon Oversite Committee (ROC) meeting on the 13th, Placerville County Buildings, 8:30am. Show up and voice your opinion to a smaller but more important group!

February 26th is the annual FOTR meeting in Sacramento, 11am (I think) at the CA4WDC office.

The holidays are over. The days are getting longer and lighter. Its time to crawl out of our homes and start being productive again. How about a New Years resolution of not letting the government take anything from us this year!
