Rotation

Do an X pattern then, pass front goes to rear driver, rear driver goes to pass front. on and on
assuming theyre all pretty matched.

they cant hurt, only help. pretend your a 1 man f1 pit crew, aim for 2.3 minutes to account for being 11 men down. double check your work, they go quick! double points if you attract neighbors.

I am a bit old school Jap car on this. I swap front to back on the same side.
This takes care of rotating directional tires as well as uni-directional tires.

I believe all data calls for front to back(not crossed), back to front crossed. I'd have to check but I remember reading that somewhere.

Edit:
I just checked alldata and I was mixed up. It is according to them, Back to Front(not crossed), Front to Back Crossed.
With this added bit of info:
alldata said:
Tires on the front and rear axles operate at different loads and perform different steering, driving, and braking functions. For these reasons:
They wear at unequal rates
Tend to develop irregular wear patterns
These effects can be reduced by timely rotation of tires. The benefits of rotation are especially worthwhile. Rotation will:
Increase tread life
Help to maintain mud, snow, and wet traction levels
Contribute to a smooth, quiet ride
NOTE: The suggested method of tire rotation is illustrated. Other rotation methods can be used, but they will not provide all the tire longevity benefits.

I do rear straight to the front and the fronts to the rear swapped.

+1 - this is how I do it.

Edit: It doesn't matter how you do it, as long as they go from front to back and swap sides every other time. Write your method down and follow it.
