rocker guard design ?s

hello,

what is the best way to mount to the pinch seam? I keep hearing that some of the mounts push up into the rocker after some time.

I see that most of the available guards use 2 mounts to the "frame" , is there a need for a third?

i'm in the process of designing a set and like the square tube with outer round tube look. One goal, and im not sure to what extent, is to make a rocker guard that also stiffens the unibody to some degree. Do any of the available guards do this?

I used 1x1X.120"(perfect radius for the pinch seam) and 7 1/4-20" per side with 3 rails to the frame.Its been rock solid,I used 1 1/2x3" for the rails.it keeps it tight but affective!

I just drew up a design with 1.5 X 3" , 3/16 thick tube as the part that bolts to the seam, and a 1.25"dia tube that sticks out like ORGS, but flat. 3" from the seam is flush with the outer edge of the rocker, more or less, so i assume yours is offset a little?

do you have pics, or should i search for them?

Looking at the underside of the rocker, there's a step in the surface about 1.5" from the seam. Does your main tube rest on this part and the small square rest on up against the seam? and which side of the seam did you bolt the tube?

The 1x1 does butt up to the pinch seam and the bottom of the rocker.Since the pinch seam is not square to the vehicle,the main rail is spaced away from the 1x1 about 3/4" in front and 1-1/2" at the rear.The 3 mounting legs angle up from the bottom of the framerail and pass under the 1x1 to hit the mainrails.I could E-mail you some pics!

what size tubing are those support rails? 1.5 square?

and what do you think about welding to the pinch and frame?


I really like that design. were you the one who had plate Al under there?

Ill be going to price out materials tomorrow and hopefully have them done this week sometime. nice to be home so i can use my dads tools...hehe.

No,I left a 3/4" gap as a buffer zone!

The mounting rails are also 1x1!

Do you plan to remove these?I think its overkill! During building I was able to pick the whole side up w/ just the pinch rail installed.
