rock sliders & exo-cage

So does anyone regret tieing everything together? By that tieing Rock sliders, front and rear bumpers, and cage.

Not really. I like the security of having the cage.

The only down side would be the extra weight and having to build up other things on it to account for that: springs, axles, brakes, etc. Plus, it was never fast, but it takes a while to get up to freeway speed!

Mine also ties through the roof in 4 places to an internal 1/2 cage. People that have ridden in my jeep always comment on how quiet it easy while wheeling. The unibody feels very rigid now.

And some guy we found this way and set him back up. You can see the sliders and the tie in too.

Ironic that he has an exo, wheels on the rocks, and doesn't have a skid plate one.......

Ha ha, yeah. The guy (in the orange one) had a couple of screws loose. He bought the rig built from somebody, but I don't think he ever really did much work on it. When we found him the first time, he was sitting in the Elevator on Hell's Revenge with a broken drag link. We had to wait for him to send his buddy on a motorcycle back to town to get a new one. He lnd his crew left. Then later, we rolled up on him near the exit of Hell's revenge on his side like that, kids crying and all. He flopped in a place where you shouldn't because he wasn't paying attention. The funny thing was, I found a video on youtube this fall of him flopping the day before in the escalator.

That's kind of a detour off topic. Anyway, the cage did it's job. Rolled him over and off they went.

So, has anyone done a "half" exo, like done on this Land Rover? I know it would not be as strong as tying everything together but it seems less intrusive. Thoughts?

that is sweet and looks like it was built mainly for cargo on top, camping etc... you could do that on an xj except it would be very flimsy unless tied into bumper, rock rail, etc... looks like you could get away with side inpacts like rubbing a tree, etc but a full roll over would put a lot of stress of the bolts and sheet metal plates uness there is something underneath those body panels

You don't necessarily know what is going on under the sheet metal though. It could be bolted to the body there too, but there could also be tubing running behind the panels that are sleeved at the joints (or something like that). Look at Ba-Riedo's. There are a couple of others I have seen that look like the exo up top, but disappear into the body on the lower portion.

Agreed though, one of the key factors and advantages of the cage is tying everything together. If you just want roof sliders get a Olympic top hat or something.

My cage is not intrusive, as I only have the exo, no inner.

Those Land Rovers do look pretty sweet!

what I am looking for is a basic exo that will protect in a rollover, but also protect some of my body panels from rubbing rocks or trees. The reason I asked about regretting tying it all together is what if you decide to change bumpers at some point, or you damage a slider or somthing but I think I AM going to tie a basic cage ti my front/rear bumpers and sliders, I can always add to the cage later
